Muriel
This was about 5 weeks ago, meet Pip, the baby that came back from our honeymooon in my tummy. We don't know yet if Pip will be a girl or boy. Pip is now just over 24 weeks and all being well is due mid to end of April, depending on how much this diabetic mum's baby grows. Pip is an interim name as we found out we were pregnant when he/she was apple pip sized. As I'm diabetic and my sugar levels were higher than desirable (but I'd tried so hard for a good year to get them lower, body just didn't want to cooperate!) I am classed as a higher risk mum. This means rather than being under the care of my local midwife and perhaps the local hospital, I'm instead under the care of the more specialist team at the hospital in Bristol. Hence the regular trips to Bristol over the last 6 months. First 4 months were tough. I had regular irregular bleeding - the first couple times wasn't too much, but was unexpected, and so a bit terrifying, but a couple scans showed no problems. Then, just as I'd gotten used to some bleeding every now and then, there was suddenly a lot of bleeding. Horrid day as I was in London for the day and couldn't just go home and curl up in bed. Luckily had the next day off anyway, so was able to go for an emergency scan and everything was fine. I did feel silly for worrying so, but the hospital was good and reassured me to come in whenever I needed. Then bleeding changed and wasn't bright red, so worried again, but they reassured me again. Also felt sick, had horrible back ache, had a long bad migraine, was just not really enjoying it, found it too worrying! After about 4 months things improved a lot, and although I seem to be getting the back ache again - can't find a position to sit/stand in that doesn't lead to back ache - I am enjoying things much more now. Pip has been kicking away for the last month or so. I mostly feel it inside, but Chris has managed to feel a couple kicks with his hand on my tummy. Doesn't hurt, just a funny feeling, nice to know she's there Saw the consultants again today - get to see the obstiatrician and diabetes consultants each appointment, and they seemed happy enough. Heard Pip's heartbeat, which is always lovely, and next scan is scheduled for in 4 weeks time. When I first saw the diabetes team they said that my insulin requirement would go up 'now' and that I shouldn't be surprised to see it double. In fact for the first 5 months being pregnant helped control my sugar levels and they haven't been that good in a few years! Each time I saw the diabetes team they'd say yup, it'll start going up now! And each time I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't go up. Over the last couple weeks my levels have been rising again, but I had such a good 5-6 months that I don't mind so much! Still keeping an eye on my sugar levels of course, and increasing insulin as I go. Anyway, that was rather a long and detailed description, but I wanted to share

havanaholly
What wonderful news, Muriel! That's so funny, that you've named your little one "Pip" in utero; I remember referring to mine as "The Pipsqueek", or more usually just "the Pip" when they were very little (but after they'd put in an appearance. Before they came out I called them "Sweetie Pie").

Muriel
We had wanted to start a family soon, but didn't think it would happen straight away. It was a fantastic end to the honeymoon. We waited until the honeymoon (2 months after wedding) to let nature decide as we thought it would probably be nicer if I wasn't suffering morning sickness already and rollercoasters might not be the best thing. Turns out rollercoaster were fine for me conceiving! Did give me the first clue though, when it took over an hour to recover from feeling motion sick after the space flight at Epcot Thanks for all the congratulations
