Songbird
Nice idea...but I have enough trouble with wiring electricity - forget plumbing!
justmesue
I like lights, so water would not be a good mix for me!
Sherry
With my luck, the water heater would leak.
AuntDee
Hmmm, knowing kids. Someone will forget tot urn the water off and there will be damage to the house. Don't think so. Rita
Caseymini
At the Anaheim NAME convention back in the early 80s a man had a dollhouse displayed with running water! It also had a swimming pool. As I remember, the water in the house was on a recirculating pump like they use for fish tanks and fountains. It was neat, but what a mess to move! It was a huge house and had a sidewalk in front and even electrical poles. I am kind of with Debra on this one.......Why?
pastalinda
My sister has always said that if her doll house had running water she would then take a "Honey I Shrunk the Kids pill and move in".
chesterfieldzoo
I always thought it would be fun to have a stick built house with lights and running water, but it would have to be in a permanent location. Also the dynamics to not have all the faucets running at once would be hard.
uppitycats
The very first dollhouse I ever had, given to me when I was about 5, had working lights and running water!! The dollhouse itself wasn't homemade, but my father installed the lights and water. I loved that house and played with it for years. The water was one of those circulating pumps like in a fish tank, and required cleaning every so often...but I quickly learned how, and did it myself. I was very careful with it and don't ever remember having anything more than a few splashes when I got carried away giving my dollies baths . I had the dollhouse all through high school. Went off to college. I came home from college one break, to find it missing! My mother had given it away!!!! "Well, I didn't think you wanted it; dollhouses are for children. I gave it to (name of niece, here.)" ARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!! Anyway. When I bought and built the Garfield, 4 years ago, it was to replace that dollhouse (but no, I didn't put in either lights or water. )
ilovecats
I love lighted dollhouses. I don't feel compelled to have a house with water tho. It would be cool to see a house like that tho. Just not mine.
katethesape
That's a bit of realism that I just couldn't see was worthwhile...sure, it's cool...but seriously, what a pain to move!
Bree1978
All I have to say is WHY....... lol Cheers Debra. OOOH, I know why! Just to say you can! What an incredibly impractical idea!!!!
havanaholly
Running water & no flush toilets? I'm with Debra; WHY?
Gina2008
I would love to have at least on dh with running water, just for the fun of it. I love challenge, and this is something I would like to accomplish one day. Thank you for sharing it with us! Have a great day.
Hallowell
No wonder all of the vintage dollhouses are either rusted or water stained.
Minis On The Edge
That's neat!! I don't think I'll try it but who knows. That s really a neat thing

havanaholly
Judging by the pictures of the children in the article, this was late 1920s/ early 1930s. I'm impressed! No wonder all of the vintage dollhouses are either rusted or water stained.
KathieB
I don't see much point to having running water in the house, but I wouldn't mind a recirculating pump to create a waterfall/pond landscape feature. That's if I ever get enough space to do a humongous layout!
melva
I could go for the pond idea, that would be interesting. But running water inside the house, I don't think so! Plumbing is out of my league.
PATBIDLACK
http://www.victorianstation.com/interior.html This was the first place I saw a dollhouse with running water and with elevators. I think it's wonderful, of course this one has gold leaf marble tile and real porcelain vases. follow some of the links here to historical references and to the shops. havanaholly
Oh, well, Queen Mary's dh had running water and real petrol in the tanks of the wee cars in the garage, and it never inspired me to want the same.
MiniMughal
Interesting! (Both the ad and Ann's story about her own dollhouse.)
mom of boys
Colleen Moore's Fairy Castle in Chicago has runnig water as well. I would consider running water in the right dollhouse. It would take some planning and a lot of trial and error to get something I would like but yes I could see doing it. So far I don't have a house that needs it, either built or in the box.
