All I can see is that upside down bay window!

*snort*  I'm so glad I wasn't trying to drink anything when I read this; I've already shorted out one keyboard in my lifetime.

When I was young (insert theme song) - I wanted the "Sounds like Home" dollhouse - mostly because it said it had a "frying bacon" sound in the kitchen, and "running water" sounds.

I so wanted it - but alas, it was too much back in the day, And now here is on craigslist for $800 and it a whole lot more "too much" lol.  Did anyone ever have this? I think it is best that it remains off limits for me - I think I might have been disappointed, I loved how realistic the furniture looked. Back then.

There are two listings where the houses look very similar. Just out of curiousity, are they just different versions of the same kit?

Thanks for being patient with me and my inexperience.

Yes. The top one is a Duracraft San Franciscan model 555 and the bottom one is the Model 550 - there’s also a 557 which is of MDF wood

Two crazy houses:

Also this facade is interesting: https://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-12-WINDOW-ORIG-WOODEN-CARVED-DOLL-HOUSE-FACADE-EXPERTLY-DETAILED/294101202334

I have something similar that I got at Goodwill for a few dollars. Mine started out as a picture frame and I think this is the same (you're supposed to put photos in each of the windows). I've thought about hinging it or attaching with magnets to a display box so you can see furniture through the windows.

$50K for that first monstrosity is over $1K/room!  Even if that conversation sofa is by June Clinkscales no way I'd pay that; those HOM dining chairs were really  poorly put together and show why I stain my furniture parts before gluing, and use as little glue as will hold bits together.

Wow! People are amazing.....Someone spent a lot of time in his basement. I loved seeing the exposed beams in the first house. It was definitely a labor of love.

I love that they flat out called that one house a Winchester. I love it. It's huge and looks to have 70s/80s interior. It's amazing.

That cracked me up! The interior is better than the exterior for sure.

Because the real Winchester mansion was continually worked on until the owner died. There were stairs leading to a blank wall, etc. I was laughing at one of his balconies because there was no door to it and the 2 windows looking out were small and high up. The owner of the Winchester thought all the dead ends would confuse the ghosts. She was also heir to the gun manufacturer company.

Did anyone else notice the indoor pool on the 50k house? Wow! Those were fun links!

Winchester-mania!

Yes! Is it suppose to be a hotel...do you think.....?

They describe it as 1920's Victorian style (that cracks me up), but the clientele looks a little shady.

The indoor pool reminded me of one in the Hearst Castle.

1920s art deco seems more appropriate? Although the house itself does have some Victorian flavor (like the windows and the gables).

I wish we could read the article from the newspaper picture....

Carrie good catch, I didn't realize that was a newspaper picture. I could just make out "South Bend Tribune" in the corner, Googled, and found this! https://www.southbendtribune.com/news/maxing-out-a-mini/article_d23d3e1d-2ac8-5470-9793-90426c3d582b.html

Sadly unavailable in the UK. My Granny lived in South Bend and there was a house at the end of her street that had loads of dollhouses, which on occasion the owner must have opened up to visitors. I was very little so only remember that much rather than any details.

Where is a time machine when you need one?
