...Chiefland, the last town before you reach water....

Cedar Key is the last town you reach as you reach the water, and those folks have no hospital closer than Gainesville, either  Neither do Old Town nor Cross City.  There is a shamefully serious lack of medical facilities along that part of the Gulf Coast.  People in Perry are taken to Tallahassee's hospitals; people in Marianna, FL have a choice between hospitals in 'Tallahassee or Dothan, AL. one of the factors controlling where we moved is that so far Pensacola has THREE major hospitals, not counting the VA nor the Navy's.

Well, it's a winter wonderland here in SE Pennsylvania!   :)  Love it!  Only about 6/7inches this time, so not too bad.  It's a wet snow this time also, so it's sticking to the trees....beautiful!

In other news, the circuit breaker in my work room/lower level went bad over the weekend so the electrician was here today to fix it.  He ended up replacing 3 receptacles in my work room-one of which was behind my storage cabinet (which happens to be screwed to my work counter)...so of course they had to remove half of the stuff from the cabinet plus move all of the crap under the counter!  Well, the mess they left for me to clean up wasn't too terrible - and it gave me a good reason to sort thru it all and do some much-needed organizing and cleaning!  :)

All done- now back to painting windows for the Victorian Farmhouse!

just realized that you're only about 450 miles away from Biloxi, Jeremy. If I do treat myself to Disney after graduation (and that looks very possible right now), I might have to make a pitstop with my crew, drop in and make sure your houses are okay..... After all, we all have a responsibility when it comes to dollhouses, right?

LOL!  You're more than welcome to stop by!  We're only 5 miles west of I-75.  Our best trip to Houston was in 2012, when we had the chance to stop by and visit Holly in AL and stay the night with Kathie & Lloyd in NOLA.

Holly, true, if you're traveling Archer Road, but I'm right off of Newberry Road, which stops at Horseshoe Beach with a few turns.  I guess Chiefland would be a bit further south and inland.  Regardless, it's way too far away from any help if someone's been in an accident or they're having an emergency of some kind.  Our for-profit healthcare system at work.

The appliance repair guy called at 7 pm yesterday to tell me he had missed our 4 pm appointment. I'm glad he finally noticed -- lol. I suspect he enjoyed a bit too much Mardi Gras celebration. He's supposed to be here around noon today. I've found some very nice microwave recipes, but I'd really like the full use of the stove again.

Also waiting for the plumber to call to set an appointment. The toilet in the 2nd bathroom is leaking and we'd like to replace it with a chair-height fixture. We ordered a fixture from a big box store but when the installers arrived, they looked at the current toilet and told us it has an 8" rough-in (distance from wall to drain) instead of the standard 10" of the item we purchased, so they took it back. Talked to a master plumber last week who thinks he has a solution and had the sense not to commit to an appointment during Mardi Gras week.

The water line in front of our condo has broken again, creating Bayou Parc Fontaine on our sidewalk. There is a current strong enough to please a trout. L has to go out the back door and around the building to reach the mailboxes, which are about a half block away. Am considering planting rice, as the city water folks don't seem too pressed to do anything about it. They repaired it a year or so ago, apparently not too successfully.

The stars don't seem to be aligned in a manner beneficial to mechanical issues!

Kathie, I suspect that's why they refer to NOLA as "the Big Easy".

Today is errand running for us, topping off with a trip to Rouse's for groceries.  Tomorrow it's back to the dentist for more fillings.  He used ear plugs last time to help with the drill noise, but plugs don't stay in my ears. At all.  So I have my shooter ear muffs staged to take with me.

Jeremy,  I love it out here in the mountains, its like nothing else in the country.   However, we are both getting older and I have a bunch of health issues and worry about that.  The 65 miles to Santa Fe is not like driving in other places with interstates etc.   The roads are single lanes through canyons and mountains, switchbacks, hairpin turns and all kinds of areas with no guard rails or anything.  You do not want to drive this route at night or in bad weather trust me on this.   Very very dangerous and I don't drive it!   We have a tiny clinic here that is on the verge of closing as the citizens of the town don't want to pay the taxes.  The thing is,  the people who use it the most are the ones who don't want to pay.  I won't go down that road but instead of going to a doctor they run the EMT's ragged with a sore throat.  Ok I will get off my soap box now.   lol

I sent in my taxes last week.  I don't get a big return but its done!!!

I'm just sitting around today, trying to get my room cleaned so if Lisa comes over tomorrow she won't think I live in a pig pen. I need to do wash clothes and wash my hair this afternoon. I'll be going in tomorrow morning at 7:30 for some minor surgery, so I'm trying to get some food put together that I can eat without cooking when I come home. Lisa asked if I'd feel up to working on the dollhouses on Sunday and I can't think why not. All I'll be doing is sitting and swearing...er, saying magic words to it while I try to finish the shell. And I just made 4 typing booboos in that last sentence before I corrected them - oh, 5. I spelled typing wrong.......by the way, spell magic like this "majic" and look at how weird it looks.

Heading home after a non successful trip to the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville for my son's hips.  Before we left we sent X-rays and MRI disks to them and they said they could treat him with stem cells. Unfortunately, once we got there they took their own X-rays and said they could not help him and that the MRI which we sent was useless. They offered a different treatment but could only offer a 50/50 improvement. Although, he is only 32 a hip replacement is his only remedy. We have to do something as he is pain management dependent and I'm fearful this is leading to an addiction. Anyone here have a hip replacement at a young age?

i'm still mystified why they won't replace his hip joint/s.  They do all sort of things for professional athletes and war vets, don't they?

I am patiently waiting for the dental anesthesia to wear off.  Today took almost three times as much anesthetic to numb my lower teeth for their crowns as the uppers did for fillings on Monday.

You know, hearing stuff like this just makes me angry!  Holly is right- they do all sorts of stuff for athletes....what about the average Joe?  And when the Mayo Clinic says your x-rays or MRI's are useless....makes me wonder just how mis-diagnosed I may be with all of the x-rays and MRI's and CT scans I've had done at our local hospital over the years!  o.0

I sure hope you are able to find a doc that can help your son!

The problem with hip replacements are that they can only be replaced/modified so many times. Ok for a fifty year old who might require two modifications, but not ok for a 30 year old whom may require 4 replacements in his lifetime.  But, medical science keeps evolving, who knows what will be available when he is 80? We are going to push for the THR just so he can enjoy his younger years pain and drug free.

I hear you!!!   I am headed next month to see a spine and pain specialist since nothing is working for my SI joint.   I am scared to death.  My doctor in town told me they don't do surgery on this joint but I know for certain that a couple of NFL players did have work done on this joint.  I guess I don't make enough money to qualify for a real treatment.
It would be easier if they could replace my hip!
Holly,  I am terrified living this far out!   Medical here is a suggestion there is little of it.  A flight to a real hospital is $30,000!!!!   I would love to move to Santa Fe I would feel a lot better there plus we are always taking me there for something!!!   Rolling my eyes here........

Roxy, have you looked into air evac memberships? We belong to Air Evac Lifeteam, which doesn't serve as far west as you, but it is a nominal annual insurance fee. Maybe there is something similar in your area.

Just got home from Orlando.  The show was much smaller than the last one I attended a year or two ago.  I did like the new venue, in the Lake Buena Vista area.  A little further from the Orlando metro area, but easier than navigating International Drive gridlock as I had done in previous years.  Amazingly, the kids didn't break anything!  My DW even got the bug and bought curtains for the Tudor house.  She was so impressed with the foliage vendors (too tired to remember who they were, but I have their cards somewhere), she wants me to build a garden or green house.  Unfortunately, Ron's Miniatures wasn't a vendor.  We made a detour on the way home to see the shop.  I picked up another roll of LED lights for the Titanic and other mini lighting projects.  The kids didn't break anything there either, but it didn't take them long to start running down the isles, so I didn't stay more than a few minutes.

After the show yesterday, we went to Disney Lake.  When I was a kid, it was just called Lake Buena Vista, and it was one of Disney's few quiet spots.  Not any longer.  It's much more developed than it was in the 80's.  It's just like one of the parks now (huge crowds, overpriced dining and touristy trinket shops) only without the rides and admission price.  By some miracle we were able to get into the Rainforest Café without a wait even though there was a 4 hour wait time when we arrived.  The kids had a blast at the Lego Store, but mile or so walk to it (they diverted traffic to a hotel parking lot way west and across the main road from the place) make a long day even longer.

We had a lot of fun for such a short trip.

Glad to hear you had a good trip, Jeremy!  I missed the show last year because my flight was canceled due to a snowstorm....and this year we couldn't work in our dates until this coming week!  Nonetheless...my plans for the week DO include a trip to Ron's on Thursday!  Yay!  I've got my list ready! :)

Besides Ron's, I am looking forward to visiting our son and DIL at their home in Sanford, and then we will spend a couple days in Sarasota checking in with my parents.  He had some cardiac tests done last week and the doc said I can call her when I am down there so we can discuss his issues.  I already know the issues - - it's generally just a matter of translating those things to my parents. He is getting weaker, and we are sure that this will be his last trip down to Florida so we want to enjoy our time with them!

Nope, just the private flight that cost over $30,000 one way!    Its hard for people who live in "civilization" to picture what its like out here.   We love it for most things but for emergency health issues not so much.

I sliced my right hand thumb nicely on my exacto knife this afternoon....such a klutz!
