What are you up to today? This week?

Grazina,

Sounds great! I haven't met an apple I didn't like. :)

Kat,

When I was a kid, my dad's first job out of college was at the Disney Tree Farm in Orlando. Besides monthly trips to the parks, our yard had over 600 plants and trees, mostly collected from Disney's compost bin. They will pull up thousands of plants overnight after they have flowered, throw them away and replace all of them so the park is always in bloom. Kind of a waste, but it kept my dad employed as a horticulturist for several years. Also greatly reduced the amount of yard that needed mowing.

I finally saw a specialist for my worn out knee today. It isn't too bad yet, but has been causing trouble since the mid-90's. I figured since I don't have to worry about co-pays until January, I might as well get it dealt with. Not only was I able to get an appointment within a week of getting the referral, but they have scheduled an MRI for Thursday and the follow up this Friday.

Jeremy,So glad you are seeing about your knee while you are young-gotta keep up with those 3 younguns and the wife! lol

And your childhood yard sounds heavenly!! Shame, shame on the Diz dummies! (But glad it gave your dad a living!) I can't stand to see plants die-all the pretty things wasted if your dad hadn't 'rescued' some of them! The main reason I won't try to grow vegetables or fruits is cuz I couldn't stand to think of all the food wasted if I were a failure!hahaha But,I hope to keep adding more pretties to this lot. My landlord and wife are friends,so I'm lucky they let me put in anything I want that improves the place. It's already gorgeous, with dozens of oaks, but the light is filtered enough to allow me to add some other colors to all that green. And I keep reminding myself that next Spring my aches and pains from digging all those holes will be well worth it! ^_^

We made it through the storm pretty well really, lots of nerve wrecking sounds during the early hours of the evening and then around midnigt or so it had calm down considerbly. Lots and lots of leaves and tree trunks/branches scattered around in the yard and along the roads as well as whole trees. But there had been a loto f work put into clearing to roads in the early hours so that was much appreciated!

Yesterday evening there was this weird sound, almost like a truck going past outside in the street with a big swooshing sound and when looking out there was this "bus" of leaves passing our house, we at the top of the street which also is a top of a long hill so it sure hadp icked up a lot of leaves and momentum coming up to pass us so to speak.

So now we are fully enjoying the calmer weather, blue sky and sunshine!

Hugs

I spent the day working diligently on my quarter scale build. I was not liking it very much on Monday but today it is coming together a lot better! Yeahhh!

Jeremy good luck with your knee. I hope that you can get it taken care of soon!

I baked a Halloween cake this afternoon also. I think I am getting the hang of baking at 7000 ft above sea level!

Thanks Kat & Roxy!

Compared with the other people I saw in the waiting room, I don't have anything to complain about, but I'm beginning to doubt it will heal on its own any longer. Sure do miss the days when I was barely in my 20's. Then again, back then I was unable to walk for several days after a long bicycle ride. Even though it wasn't bothering me on Monday (I don't run up and down stairs on the weekend like I do at work) the doc could tell I had a slight build up of fluid and could hear the grinding when I bend it. I'm sure it isn't a surgical issue yet, so I'm not worried.

It doesn't look like I'm riding to Michigan next month either. From the reports of sleet in Marquette, it's probably for the better that Fred is shipping his bike down. The plan is to ride out to Daytona and St. Augustine one Saturday after it arrives and show him around some of our scenic areas. It's been in the mid-80's all week and will likely stay this way until December or January, so we have plenty of time to crank up the bikes.

FYI Highlands Hammock State Park in Sebring, FL, has wifi! We set out two weeks ago tomorrow and stopped at a commercial campground north of Panama City to attend their jazz fiestival, as one of our friends was a featured performer. Sunday we traveled down to Manatee Springs State Park and awooke Monday to find the bathroom sink faucet set had disintegrated and water was pouring down over everything in the vanity; fortunately the extra TP rolls were still sealed in plastic and we used the spare bathtowels to mop up. Our route took us right past a Camping World dealership on US27 and they were able to work us in, so we replaced the faucet and healed the leak and spent Monday night at Lake Louisa State Park near Clermont. Tuesday we stopped at Kissimee Prairie Preserve State Park, north of Lake Okeechobee, and if we ever have to go back to South Florida that's where I want to stay! The overhead sky is one of the few star-viewing sights in South Florida not blasted by excessive light pollution, although there is an unbroken ring of light all around the horizen.

Wednesday we arrived at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, south of Hobe Sound, FL, and when we'd set up camp we hopped on our bike & trike, respectively, and took off for the older River Campground where our Tallahassee friends were headed. It's a fair haul from one end of the park to the other, but gorgeous. Our buddies hadn't arrived yet, but we met them coming in as we were headed back. We went to lunch and found an Italian restaurant nearby; in the sqame shopping cdenter was a thrift store we dumped a bit of dinero and then hit the grocery store while we were there.

Thursday we all paddled Kitching Creek through the mangroves and saw a small alligator, a great blue heron and an osprey. A bunch of us went out to supper together at the Time To Eat Diner in Tequesta, FL and brought home boxes of leftovers.

Friday we did the one paddle I have always wanted to do, and paddled from the park along the Loxahatchee River to Trapper Nelson's and back; more mangroves and a truly unique chunk of Florida history.

Saturday I stayed at the camper to let my blisters heal while DH went on an open water paddle to Munyon Island. I baked some of my infamous Guiltless Cayenne Cheese Biscuits for the potluck Saturday night. For some reason the lights that had worked perfectly Friday night for the hot dog supper wouldn't work and we ate and walked back to our vehicles) in the dark.

Sunday we did what was supposed to be an aquatic preserve paddling tour, but it was more of a trip around the Jupiter inlet playing dodge-boats with humongous power yachts on a bit of the Intracoastal Waterway. We found some fellow paddlers to go out to lunch with at Schooner's, across the street from where we launched. Our Tallahassee friends stopped by and invited us to supper, and we went to Rancho Chico and pigged out! We also brought home another box...

Monday we spent visiting one of my friends since third grade and her hubs, and they kindly let us wash skivvies and bathtowels and then go out for late lunch to Park Avenue BBQ Grille for RIBS! Yesterday we began packing up, and tried to do a last bike/ trike ride through the park. This time we hit the old road (JDSP is on the site of the former Camp Murphy Army base from WWII) and rode first towards the golf course to the South and then back to the main park road at the RR crossing. There we were stopped by a film crew filming an episode for the Discovery Channel's "Fast & Furious", so after they'd headed back to the Visitor's Center for another take we turned our noses back towards the campground, with a side trip up Hobe Mountain (actually a humongous sanddune) and went up the observation tower. After a lunch of polishing off my Rancho Chico leftovers we went to the Hobe Sound Nature Center and hiked one of the hammock trails and played with some of the rescue animals in the center; we didn't hold, but got to pet one of the baby endangered crocodiles and a baby gopher tortoise. They also had a little red ratsnake, but it had just come to the center and was still terrified of people. For supper we finished off the Time To Eat Diner leftovers.

We left this AM and are stopped in Sebring where we visited with family friends and then went to supper at Taste of India where, needless to say, I brought home a box!

We're leaving after breakfast for Little Manatee River State Park where we'll camp whilst visiting DH's mom until Saturday evening, and then head for home! and plan to arrive on Monday.

They finally delivered and installed my bathroom vanity yesterday. We've been without it for what - eight weeks? We ordered from these guys because they were supposed to get in 3-4 weeks. My husband called them again on Tuesday, and was told it was being delivered Wednesday and didn't anyone call us? No - no one called us. We were going to get the knobs whenever they called that they were going to deliver the vanity.

DH and I went to buy knobs today. Guess what? We got 7 knobs and 6 of the bolts were too short. DH has gone to look for longer ones at the hardware store.

I've got about $40 worth of Halloween candy and radar show rain all over the place. Not raining at our house at the moment though.

Roxy, I envy you!! Such incredible beauty! I also know it's really cold or really hot,but it is still breathtaking,as Selkie said!

Grazhina, good luck with getting your new vanity all sorted out-bless y'all's hearts!Hope it's dry out tonight!

This is kind of a sad day for me as it's the second year here and we will never get treaters down our little unknown country lane. After 27 years at the old place, enjoying tons and tons of kiddies coming by,it's just sad for me! :( But,my son is bringing supper home after work to cheer me up! Good boy!lol

Yum! Thanx,Roxy! Well,on the bright side I have a whole year now to plan to host a Halloween party for children,or go to a trunk and treat event around here next year. Maybe by then I'll be so brave that I will have a Spring fling build! And in the next few days, wow, eye candy galore-the bestest non-fattening kind!lol

I agree with you there! Eye candy has a whole lot fewer calories! lol

Maybe I will get brave and try the Spring Fling next year! I haven't done one yet! I have a long list of "want to builds" and there is only so much time to spend on it.

Someone please take the candy corn away!!!!

I feel your pain. We had the same thing sort of. Ordered replacement windows due to failure and were told delivery would be in June. They finally delivered them 3 weeks ago. Several calls were made and we were always given the excuse that the manufacturer was behind. We only needed 8 sashes and it takes 6 months to make them? When I called the last time, I was ready to talk to an attorney but the secretary told me the windows had come in the week before. Hey, thanks for letting me know. I wouldn't recommend that company to anyone even if they were giving away their products.

Roxy, that picture is just gorgeous!

Holly, just reading all the stuff you guys do makes me need a nap! Hope you have loads of fun and good weather.

Grazhina, I feel your pain with renovations.

Sitting here trying to plan my day while the boys(Gibbs, Toby and Timmy) snore away at my feet. Halloween is not a fun day for them. No offense to all you guys who celebrate it, but I just am not a fan, never have been. Our house has no decorations, I leave all the lights out, and the dogs are barking like crazy, yet people still send their kids to the door. Mostly I just try to ignore it, but I sure do wish the parents would stick to the houses that are obviously into it. (A guy around the corner has at least 6 blow-up decorations on his lawn)

Gayle - 4 months late on windows???? Egad

I managed to give away about a third of the Halloween candy. At least I didn't get the usual hordes of teenagers, I guess they decided wandering around in the rain wasn't going to be fun. It's ok - DS called from college asking if there was going to be candy left over for him, he's looking forward to free candy.

I had my kitchen range fixed last week, that extra warranty I buy each year has really paid off for the second year in a row. Unfortunately 3 days after the repair one of the knobs fell off. I called, but the warranty doesn't cover replacement burner knobs. Last night another knob came loose. The knobs are $19 ea plus shipping. $19 for a cheapo plastic knob?

Oh yeah - for the second time this week the mailman didn't pick up our packages. We've had a substitute for most of the week, don't know if the carrier is goofing off or if there's a problem in the USPS system and someone isn't getting their messages.

Sarah, we don't do Halloween here because Matilda goes absolutely crazy and doesn't calm down between groups at the door. Rusty the retriever then has to join in!

With all three of them chiming in (Timmy is working on his guard bark) I almost had to put in earplugs :bangin:
