Liz
Hello from Florida. I just got my first dollhouse kit for Christmas. I wanted to start with something small & inexpensive...so I chose The Arthur. This will be a project for my 8 year old daughter (Taylor) & I. We are looking forward to getting started on it soon. I spent most of the evening last night looking at furniture, wallpaper, floor coverings & completed houses. This looks like it could become really expensive and highly addictive.....but a lot of fun. If all goes well, I will be taking on a larger house next time. Liz & Taylor
havanaholly
to the Greenleaf forum, Liz & Taylor (what? no Richard & Burton?), from another Floridian, freezing N of Tallahassee! (Where are y'all?) my first dollhouse kit for Christmas. Which kit? Feel free to ask any & all questions, and to post progress pictures of your building & decorating. We shall happily hold your hand as we gently nudge you to the edge and give you a subtle push down the slippery slope into full-fledged dh & mini addiction

Peggi
Hi and welcome to the forum. Yes, it can get expensive until you learn to look at things with a "mini" eye. I've used real wallpaper, given to me free from old wallpaper sample books. From these sample books I've also found some wallpaper that made great floor coverings. I've also bought skinny sticks from Walmart to do a hard wood floor. Scrap book paper can also be used for both. Look thru some of the links posted and you will find sites where you can use printies to make all sorts of items--from computers, posters, can food labels, etc. If you have a good printer hooked to your computer, some have downloaded and printed on photo paper tile floor coverings. Be sure and check out your Dollar stores for great finds also. When you get a chance check out the building blogs, they contain some great tutorials (especiallly havanholly and Deb's) on how to make lots of things from scratch. Also the blogs show how things can be corrected, redone or flaws hidden along with how some mistakes can be beneficial in the creative process. Be sure an look around, there's some great hints and advice, tutorials and links to other mini sites. You and your daughter will have lots of fun together on your building project. But be very careful, it is very addictive--like eating potato chips--one is never enough.
CJEP
Hi and welcome, Liz and Taylor!! It can be very expensive, but if you read some of the old threads around here you will see some good ways to do things more cheaply. Enjoy your house and building it together!! uppitycats
Yes, it can get expensive...especially if you're as foolish as I was and started with a HUGE house...and now just this day found myself buying ANOTHER house (at least the second one is already built...although I'm already thinking about ways to personalize it...) Have fun with the Arthur. I can't wait to see what you choose for a second house!

chesterfieldzoo
Welcome!! The Arthur is a nice starter house. You can find inexpensive furniture or you can make your own. You can decorate to the extreme or just make it look nice. Take some time to look through the galleries. There is an enormous amount of ideas there. Peggi
Welcome Julieanne. The Garfield is a beautiful house, I'm sure you will enjoy it. But don't be shocked at the number of pieces you will get. This is a large house. Read you instructions several times and get familiar with the schematics and you ought to do fine, but if you have questions, please ask.
