Keith, what did you use on the matboard to make your molding?  A stylus?

Holly, the decorative center part of the molding is some trim used in real life construction (not DH molding) then I added matboard to the top and bottom.  I thought because of how tall the room was that I could get away with using a larger trim, scale wise atleast.  I got the trim at either Menards or HD.

The curved arches can not be permanently glued into place until ...

Ah, the old "as soon as" bump in the road. As soon as I do this, I can do that ... but then it all comes together beautifully. :)

Every house tells a story.  While mine is not fully developed yet, I knew fairly early on where my house would reside.  The Pacific Northwest is where I envision this house resting.  Most people name their houses but I struggled finding a name that spoke to  me.  Instead I decided an address would serve as it’s name.

807 Evergreen is it’s namesake now.  Why 807?  Well that references August 7th, the day of the first kiss by me and the mrs.  Evergreen is a nod to the many trees that populate its location.  This naming got me sidetracked and I made a sign to sit near the front of the property.

and it lights up🙂

I wondered if scratch builds tell their back story, same as the kits.

A little predawn philosophy if I may --

I think scratch builds must have a a nucleus of a story from the get-go, even if the builder is not aware of the details, which are there for the house to reveal as their relationship matures. I imagine stories floating around, looking for a builder to inspire, and when they find a fertile imagination, the adventure begins. 807 Evergreen is apparently ready to reveal its backstory to Keith, with more details to come.

I think the backstory for kit houses develops in the manufacturing process. Mostly, they speak to us from the box, but even kit houses, like your pub that refused to be Miss Marple's house, sometimes take a little while to get through to us.

New pics of what I am calling the Great Room in my 1/12th scale scratch built house.  I wanted something a bit beefier than the standard trim for the crown moulding since this room is 2 stories high.  Nothing fancy, just embellished it with some layered mat board.  The top part, while it adds some height, it also serves as concealment as I plan to add lights to highlight the ceiling boards and beams near the skylight.

Also pictured is the bracket for the curved portion of the twin columns.  While it is a simple shape I did go through several versions before deciding on this one.

Now that the large front window has been finalized, the other large wall (20” H by 24” W) can be permanently installed.  The large painting in the great room is my best bargain. I stumbled across an artist on etsy who did these paintings and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be perfect.  Sadly she no longer paints and now focuses on jewelry.  I got this masterpiece for $8

With the other major wall in place it was time for the daunting task of aligning the curved arches to connect with the side walls.  There were some gaps but nothing a little drywall compound couldn’t fix.

Wooooowww Keith!  Those arches and pillars!!!!!  So glad you're getting back into this.  And the painting it utterly perfect for this space. 😍

Big thanks Rebecca!   The arches and pillars were a labor of love.  Fingers crossed, the wall sconces on the sides of the painting will light up.

**Update to this dusty thread.  Ok so where do I begin because its been quite the hiatus.  Well the big news is me and the Mrs. were finally able to get a proper house (we bought a house) thanks to covid.  We were able to take all that extra money from the government and make a down payment out of it.  All of my time and energy since then has been put in to fixing up the real house and unfortunately the mini house took a backseat.

If I’m being honest there were times when I wasn’t sure if I would return to minis.  I kept telling myself “ You’ve put too much time and energy into this house to just leave it unfinished.”  It took some self prodding but I am happy to say I am back at it, easing myself in and reacquainting myself with this house.

Last posted to my gallery was the finished Greatroom
