Awww Mike.  I am sad to hear this.  When I start the house I am going to keep, I know there are things you would have had for that house.  I need to get an email out to you.

Just let me know anytime Donna........I think having an online shop needs constant promotion and I think my stuff was wrong for it anyway......buyers want to buy not order and I can understand that..............fun giving it a try though.

Hi all, Just to let you know I've decided to close the Etsy shop......Aside from the first incredible week there has been almost no interest. My thanks to everyone who have contributed to this thread.....it is very much appreciated.

Will you still take orders for special items? I should think that would get in the way of working on your own projects.

The only project I had running Kathie was the 'Department Store' and that I was doing as a way of showing minis for Etsy..........I will probably put the store back on eBay and do some 'real' house stuff a while until inspiration takes me.

I think the 'taking orders' was the major problem with the shop.......but of course the only way to build something like a fitted kitchen is to have sizes and sizes mean an order........!

Must be that time of the month!

It's such a bummer, Mike! Buyers do want instant gratification. Have you thought about making readily available kits for the cabinets and stuff? That way you could get a bunch of them done and ready to go...

Hi Jodi.....I just enjoy making.......whatever! I love the challenge, It's possibly a bad time of year too which doesn't help the mood!.....maybe I should just do small stuff like under £10.......not much of a challenge though.

Mike ... do what you want to do. I don't know about you, but if I have a goal imposed on me (especially one with a deadline) set by somebody else, I'm not a happy camper.

Sometimes I quite like deadlines........reminds me of the world and keeps you pushing on!.........right now it's the complete lack of them!..........however after 3 messages overnight (it's 05:30 here) I am assured that it is normal for people to take holidays during the summer months therefore diverting their 'miniature spending money' into holiday cash!

I'm stuck at home waiting to slave over my cutting mat whilst all the time folk are off using their 'air miles'

who would have thought it!

Mike, have you thought about maybe making a miniature TV shop or something similar, stuffing it full of TVs, for example, and then just letting it sit on Etsy for a while? Instead of selling a whole bunch of different things, why not try just selling one or two items and stick with those? Then you can make a building and put all your TVs or whatnot in it and when someone wants to buy one, you just have them pick out the one they like and pull it out of the shop. Maybe you can make an appliance shop and sell the kitchen items that way. People will get their shopping fix that way and it will give you time to make the items you need without having to rush things. Plus, you can always put that you make custom orders. Write it on the shop window.

Years ago the owner of a miniature store I used to frequent (translated that means she had to take a broom and shoo me off her steps at night when she closed) made a miniature hat shop. I wanted to buy a hat one day and instead of pulling it out from behind the counter, she opened the little hat shop and let me pick the one I wanted right then and there.

Real sunglasses or miniature ones?

I was going to make an area in the 'department store' dedicated to 'home entertainment'! That will display both TV and Audio and I'm doing vinyl signage and decoration for all of the windows........I really think the time of the year is having the greater effect!

That's exactly what I want...........Someone to take a broom to!........I'd shoo them into the shop!

Real sunglasses!

My problem at the miniature shops then was that I did a lot of looking and only a little buying, because I was on such a budget. I had a kid to support. Four legs and two pointy ears. He needed school supplies for obedience training, food, shelter, medical care - heck, he even had a canine dental specialist when I didn't have dental insurance! But he was a Doberman and good protection where I lived. I sure miss that dog.

Anyway, the look in the owners' faces when I would show up at the miniature shops....hence the broom. They were getting tired of cleaning the drool off the shop windows.

I am so dying to see the mall when it's done!

And I can't wear real life sunglasses. They wouldn't fit over my regular glasses. I have two pairs of glasses so when I mislay the first pair, I have to put the second pair on to find them.

I couldn't imagine a life without a dog in it.........although there are times when I tell Aflie my next dog's going to be a cat!

I started on the interior of the mall today........painting! I hate painting and this is a big one. I filled in most of the central area on the three floors.......It needs more showroom space!

I put more stuff on Etsy today.......A couple of 'made to order' Bar sets and some 'ready anytime' paintings with free shipping.........The man's gone Mad! I have decided though to give the shop some more time.........We only have six days Summer here in England but I realise the rest of the world has a lot more!

Mike ... I just ordered the toolbox. Don't know how I could have missed it before! It will look great in my pottery shop.

:hmm: According to Flanders & Swan, if I recall correctly, they missed summer one year while in the bath. :D

Our Icelandic friend once told us about the day in her homeland where everyone goes out and buys new sweaters and have a national party with lots of beer, food, singing & dancing in the streets that lasts an entire day & night, and they call it "Summer".

My responses can be wonky, too. Sometimes when I click to start a response, the quote from the previous message I answered pops up and can't be dislodged. I give up and move on, but it's annoying. And in the photo strip on the Browse/Forums page, more times than not I can't post a comment unless someone has broken the ice by posting ahead of me.  Methinks the Universe may be telling me I talk too much. :D

Excellent, Mike.  Did you make the faucet tap?

Thanks Holly.......I didn't make the tap.....I got a 'job lot' from a dealer a while ago.......I've seen identical ones on sale for £15..........I got 20 for £1 each........and they don't even drip!

That's jaw dropping amazing.

Our Mike raised the bar so high that many of us are slack-jawed. :D
