If you're still looking for an Orchid kit, Debora, here are a couple of links on ebay...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Orchid-Victorian-Open-Back-Wood-DOLLHOUSE-Craft-Kit-w-Divider-Walls-Shingles-/111401617588?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item19f00dc8b4

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Greenleaf-Orchid-Dollhouse-Kit-/181479738713?pt=US_Dollhouse_Miniatures&hash=item2a41090d59 -- $24.00 opening bid!

Do a search on ebay and you'll find about 3-4 more, and I think they're all kits, not builds. Some even offer free shipping.

Ah, I see that there is a difference in the trim on the White Orchid (the ebay links are for the Orchid, not the White Orchid), but for the difference in price of $30.00, you can easily choose your custom trim! My favorite site for trim, etc., is http://heritagelaserworks.com/

Oops, one of the ebay links is for the White Orchid! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Orchid-Victorian-Open-Back-Wood-DOLLHOUSE-Craft-Kit-w-Divider-Walls-Shingles-/111401617588?pt=Model_Kit_US&hash=item19f00dc8b4

Thanks for the links, but the White Orchid is made of different material than wood. It was a special limited release kit from Greenleaf. Fortunately, I've been lucky enough to get one from forum friend Emily. Here is more info if you are interested

Yes, I did read the Greenleaf page before answering initially. I also see that Greenleaf is out of stock! It is a really pretty little house, but tremble at the thought of working with plastic! I've done so before with disastrous results. I just bought the E6000 and will absolutely try it out before I buy anything with so much plastic (synthetic!) to glue!

I thought that it was only the trim that was different on the White Orchid since I don't see that lovely trim anywhere else.

Has anyone here tried any other glue on this kit? I'm reading the specs for the synthetic material used. It would seem that even Aleene's could/should work with it, given its matte finish and suggested use in arts & crafts projects, models & architectural prototypes and, especially noted, wood replacement.

Just rambling on here with some thoughts.

Sapphire, the kit is not plastic. It is not wood. There is no wood in the kit at all. It is not painted.

The E6000 was the best of the available glues. I tried 5 different glues. Aleenes will NOT work on it.

It is not exactly a matte finish, more of an eggshell. It is very smooth and sleek. Glues do not adhere to it easily, most will just roll off.

It's kind of one of those things that is hard to describe, you almost have to see it and touch it. Once you get the knack of how to handle it, it's really nice to work with. (obviously, since I did it twice)

If you ever get an opportunity to get one, do it.

Deana, I think you meant the kit IS plastic.

No, I meant it is not plastic in the sense of what people think. It's a plastic derivative (synthetic). It has a kind of fibrous feel to it when you cut it. Most plastics I deal with are brittle and snap, this flexes. It's such an odd material. I am sure we all have different ways to describe it. I find trying to describe it to someone who hasn't touched it is like me trying to explain the internet to my mother....lol

Like a stranded polymer rather than a cellular one? That's what I thought. It certainly thumbed its nose at the solvent-type adhesives one usually can use with plastics, but played beautifully with the E6000.

There are plastics and there are plastics, which is why containers are coded for recycling purposes. Type A won't mix with type B or C, etc. Our recycling center will take the clear type A bottles but not their plastic tops. The White Orchid is a type of plastic. Unlike the contractors' foam insulation board, which dissolves when sprayed with Krylon, the White Orchid material takes the spray beautifully. I pinned the roof pieces onto a backing of the contractors' board to spray it, which is how I know this. Hold a scrap of White Orchid waste material over a flame and watch it melt into a plastic blob.

Back when the White Orchid appeared on the scene and we were discussing glues, one of our technical members named the type of plastic. I can't remember what it was nor am I inclined to search for it, but maybe someone else will remember.

After looking at the picture of the White Orchid and reading through the discussion here, I would sure tackle this build! In fact, I would LOVE to build this!

If there's another one around -- anywhere -- please, someone, let me know! What a beautiful church this would make.

Thanks!
