Nuthouse, Celluclay and Rigid Wrap

I've been keeping myself busy. Well, actually I'd rather just sit back and enjoy the balmy summer breeze but whatcha gonna do?

I did quite a bit of work on the Nuthouse today. I've Celluclayed almost the entire exterior. I ran out of the batch I mixed and decided to call it a day. I'll have to make more tomorrow.

I've been using 2 products I had never tried before, Rigid Wrap and Celluclay. The first is sort of like a gauze bandage coated with plaster, you dip it into water and drape it over your form or armature, or whatever. Celluclay is a papier mache product, sort of like paperclay only more rugged.

While working with them I realized they would be great for castle building or witch's houses or falling down hovels or storybook cottages.

I added a bunch of pictures and information about working with the products in today's Nuthouse blog entry (gatehouseproject).

Grazhina: I love your nuthouse and thanks for the celluclay instructions, it gives an alternative to paperclay that my Hobby Lobby always seems to be out of.

Wow -- you've really done a lot to this -- thanks for the info on the celluclay and rigid wrap, seen the products but never saw them used. And I love the stairway.

The Nuthouse is certainly going to be a work of art -- Miss Mouse need to have a party to show it off!

Thanks, everyone.

I just wanted to let you folks know that there are 2 entries for today and some more pix. The structure has been covered in Cellulay and will be left to dry for a few days.

I was complaining about the fact that stuff was taking so long to dry, now the drier air has moved in and some of it dried too fast.

Last night I added more Celluclay to make a textured bark. The more I thought about it, the less I liked the idea of painting on bark. It took hours, but I like it.

Today I gave the bark and the "cut" portions a basecoat of color. My son insisted trees should be brown, not gray.

There are 3 new pictures in the Nuthouse album.

Next comes more work on the interior and then it'll be landscaping

Grazhina, you can use very dark brown & "wash" it with thin coats of gray & it may look more realistic. Your son notwithstanding, the tree trunks in my yard are shades of gray with a hint of orange-gray here, brown-gray there, some grays with hints of yellows or greens... from a distance many of them take on a brownish color...
