I've actually seen this in RL, so it doesn't look wrong to me.

I think they are charming;I've also seen a double newel post in RL. Take a look at JoMed's gallery of that wonderful historic Tudor. Lots of wonderful wonkiness going on in that house!

I think it looks great. I love the color and pattern on the risers.

Repeat some of the pattern on the square block parts and then everything will gel even better.

I wouldn't have noticed the double newels unless you mentioned it, so I obviously didn't see anything wrong with his. If I did, my eyes would have went immediately to the "sore spot."

Personally, I think this staircase looks very inviting - too inviting in fact. Now I won't be able to think much of anything else besides how much I love the Fairfield and how I wish I could climb up these stairs. - I hope you are satisified!
