1/2 Scale Fairfield Gone Tudor

kellyannmo

Much cursing and throwing of building supplies occurred today in my house..... I am beginning to wish I had just used the unattractive kit stairs.... anyhow... here is where I am going... many pieces are not glued in place yet... the far side hand rail is not butting up against the wall... grumble... I may just leave it like this 'cause I've about had it with this little tiny foyer....

Yes, your orders for now are to take deep breaths as Deb suggested and sip some of your favorite drink while doing a bit of peaceful star gazing. Re-center yourself and that $@^&*!# foyer will come together in it's own time.

This might work. Put the newel posts that are on the bottom of the stairs on the outside of your bottom steps and then just run the rails up to the walls. Drop the newel posts at the top. If stuff isn't attached yet, you might want to see how this looks. If you don't like it, you can always go back to what you have (which I think looks pretty good!).

As a non-builder, I'm not sure if I understand what your problem is because those stairs look very inviting to me. You certainly didn't take the easy way out of this project, but your efforts (and cursing) will pay off.

I don't see any problems, just awesome! Take a breather and I know your builders magic will make them work :)

thanks folks.... your kind words are always very encouraging :)

the problem with these stairs... is the spindles go into little holes in the treads... I drilled 2 more holes in the bottom two treads for the spindles (the stair kit is designed to go along a wall... not sandwiched between two walls) ... because of the location of the spindles, the hand rail doesn't line up with the wall. Putting the newel post on the outside of the stairs is a perfect solution except then the hand rail wouldn't line up with the posts... and still wouldn't touch the wall.... I banged my head on the table many times yesterday.... the only solution I could come up with is adding the second newel post on the 3rd step. I did come up with a solution for the far railing not touching the wall (I hope).... results later today I hope.

I had to do the same with my stairs, otherwise the rails would not line properly or would hit the archway. To be honnest I like it, and you did a fantastic job with yours! Love the decorations on the stairs, the colors and the wallpapper are gorgeous, this house looks fantastic.
