fov
Hi Nutti - I'm here. I've been puttering around the house yesterday and today (didn't do anything for Thanksgiving). One of my hamsters got sick yesterday and I don't think she's going to make it. So, I've been keeping an eye on her and feeling sad about it. I should start thinking about Christmas shopping but my mind is just drawing a blank... ;)
Minis On The Edge
I am here too. Though I promised NOT to leave the house, we went shopping today and we got the girls some skirts and Rachel a really cool pair of Jeans at "the children's place". We also got hubby a new suit and I did not get anything (cause I won an Alpine house on ebay this last week and a tin house that is brand new and never used and I got it for under $40 including shipping!) Any way, I felt guilty because of it so I was good (plus I know we are going shopping again soon, I'll get me some things then ) We got about 2" of snow here and it is a bit warmer (not -6 with windchill) but about 16 degrees. I just was not ready for this after such a nice long autumn! Hope everyone else is having a wonderful weekend. Emily, I am so sorry to hear about your Fur-Kid. I hope things turn around for the best! ;)
darrellandmelissa
Well I'm in retail, this was black Friday so I was up at 3AM to get to work by 4AM so we could open the doors for the lines waiting outside in the rain at 5AM. Some were there starting last nite. So needless to say, my day was totally crazy. At least we didn't have fights like they did at some of the WalMart stores. But I DO manage the electronics department and that is where I think MOST of those waiting converged within seconds of the door opening. While I was tryin' to satisfy the needs of my customers mel slept in. Then she woke up and went to work on the McKinley doing some minor touch up stuff. So that's where we've been. Tomorrow I don't have to be at work until 5AM and we open at 6. I will be sooo glad when Christmas is over and we can go back to opening at 8 and I can get a weekend off occasionally. I need a vacation. LOL! Darrell
hydroped
Well, I was out shopping this black friday.. by the way, does anyone know why they call it that? Lines were crazy at a few place - we decided to skip thouse. Up at 3 am this morning and at 4:20 the line going around Best Buy went around the side of the store all the way around the back and up the other side so we skipped merrily past that place and didn't set foot in the door but still got a few things elsewhere - it was nice to be able to leave the kid with grandma and get some shopping done that he doesn't know about ;) Now it's 7:52 and I've been ready to go to bed since 5 pm LOL Sorry to hear about your hampster, Emily. I raised hampsters for about about a year (back when I was about 19) and really Really got attached to a couple of them. We had one big female I called Hoss - she was Huge! and what a great personality. Anyway our heart goes out to you <hugs> -David
fov
Thanks, Tracy and David. She died. ;)
IrishMist
I'm here, too. Just hanging around and being very happy that the tubes are out and I'm down to 64 staples. YEAH!!!!! Been busily knitting Christmas gifts, working on a needleturn applique wall hanging of some woodland trilliums, and basically trying to stay put and behave, even though the Jefferson is crying out to be wall papered and painted....maybe tomorrow. Sorry to hear your hampster died. That is always so hard! Carol
Deb
Emily, I'm so sorry to hear about your bitty fur baby. <gentle hug> It's always hard to lose a little friend, but coming so soon after the last one, it's especially difficult. Do something good for yourself and try to feel better. {{{{{{{Emily}}}}}}} Carol, it's just great to see you back!! I'm glad you're on the road to recovery. It's got to take a huge amount of self restraint to go slow, so kudo's to you for not over doing it! David, in theory, they call it Black Friday because retailers are supposed to go out of the red and into the black on their financial charts. My personal theory is that they call it Black Friday because of all the bruises afterward!! Did ya'll see the news reports of people getting trampled on?? Now, I'm a kamakazi shopper, but there's nothing in life I want badly enough to make me stomp over another human being! Darrell, glad to hear you survived the first day of the holiday shopping season. Sounds like it's going to be a long one for you. Don't forget to rest when you can. Tracy, it sounds like you got a couple of excellent deals on eBay. What are your plans for the tin house? I don't think I've ever seen one before and I'm quite curious. Nutti, I've been meaning to tell you that your xmas hutches are adorable. If you're stocking up on more hutches, you must be planning a few more. I can't wait to see them. Sooooooo.........what did you find at Hobby Lobby? (I love shopping reports!!) I got a little shopping in today, but did it from the comfort of my 'jammies and socks in front of the computer. Call me wicked, but it wasn't holiday shopping either. Miniatures.com had that 20% off sale going this weekend and, well, you know how that goes. ;) But I'd planned for it and it didn't bite into my holiday budget at all so I have no guilt! I picked up a few more little things for the Pierce and started on the gathering of things for the librarian's retirement cottage (haunted house). I'm going for a slightly shabby, very eclectic, slightly scatterbrained decor. Does it tell you anything about what I have planned for decor if I tell you I ordered 8 dozen mini books to go in it? <cackle> Deb
hydroped
Hi Deb, Thanks for the answer about "black friday" - I always sort of wondered that.. but the answer makes sense ;) Didn't see about the tramplings but I tend not to watch the news much and I don't get the paper - mostly going out on the day after T-day is an excuse to get away, look at cool stuff and take my sister out for a cup of gourmet coffee and then breakfast later. I hear there are some sales out today too but I think I'm going to stay home and work on minis -David
havanaholly
We went to Miniature Memories and a Goodwill and a children's cancer charity thrift shop, also Woodcraft & Tuesday Mornings. I do NOT "do" big stores (except hardware stores) when it's NOT "black Friday", either. Darrell, half a lifetime ago I worked at Lionel Play World and stood on my head to work the overnight restock crew, rather than than fight with retail customers. LPCullen
Emily, I am so sorry to hear about your furr baby! Hugs from me too! Jimmy took all four days off as well, so we've been having some "us" time. Nothing fancy, just hanging out, going to visit my brother at the farmhouse he recently bought and hiking in the woods there, we went to visit my middle sister. Today we went out for a bit and looked at some antique stores. Didn't buy anything. Been working a little on the McKinley.
Shakyshaky
I am sorry to hear about your hamster. Well I did go out on Fri but just to Joanns and target. We got a new digi camera since ours died the night before. We started my daughters Laurel and primrose today. ;) We have almost finished the primrose and I am hoping to wait on the Laurel until she is on christmas break ( dec 15) I am hoping that having the primrose will tide her over. LisaN
I am so sorry about your hamster. I feel the same about my cats--especially my two furballs outside--they do not like coming inside, and it's cold. June Bug is tough, but Sweetie Pie is just that-- a little sweetie. Nutti, great about your deal! Don't feel bad, my daughter Amanda does the same thing with Chris--bats those little eyes and starts a-wrapping him around her finger! ;) I remember you mentioning that house--I really look forward to seeing pics of it! I attempted to make poinsettas today from the how to in December issue of AM. Though it takes ALOT of time, it is well worth it. The only thing I did differently was the stamins, or the yellow thingy's that stand up, I used model magic & colored it yellow. The only punch I used was a fiskars teardrop--1/8th for the leaves & petals--it turned out well. Tired of turkey, we ate Chinese tonight--green pepper steak, chicken fried rice, shrimp toast, & won ton soup. YUM! It was great comfort food after so much holiday fare! fov
Thanks everyone... especially to the "secret pal" who sent me a cyber sympathy card. Nutti - great deal on the house kit! With Dura Craft out of business, you're lucky you found one when you did. That's a gorgeous house, too. I haven't been much in the mood for minis lately. I intended to do a whole bunch of things to my McKinley Thursday and Friday, but the sick furbaby got in the way. Sigh. I'll get back to them eventually! ;)

I'm all excited for you! That's a fantastic house! I've seriously considered putting it on my list of "want to do" so you'll have to keep us posted on the progress. Give your munchkin a hug for having such good taste in houses......and one for the hubby too for being such a softy when it comes to his little girl. Those are the kind of things that make golden childhood memories that last a lifetime. Nutti, when you talk about your family, you always make me smile. It's obvious that there's a lot of love in your house and if you don't mind my sounding a little sappy, I think that you and your family have something very special and precious. Deb
This is the colonial Tin house I won. It is BRAND new all furniture is in plastic & it even has the 2 cars included. Oh cool! I remember those! I think a friend of mine had one when I was a kid. That's an excellent deal to find one in the box. Are you going to display it or leave it in the mint collectors condition? The Alpine is beautiful. What are your plans for it? Deb

shutterbugkc
I'm back for a little bit. The semester is almost over, so I've been busy trying to finish papers and tests. I just have three more papers to write and two more test and I'll be done for the holidays and free to spend time online again!
