Narnia077
Hi I'm dolling a Arthur for Glimmer of Life Charity and am thinking of doing the whole house in different colors of stain! Has anyone done this, any advice Thanks
Dalesq
I can't think of ever seeing one, but it's a nice idea. You could score floor and outside wall patterns into the wood for additional effects. There are so many stains available, you could get some beautiful effects. I'm looking forward to your photos!
morgansmith
Don't forget there's stain pens. Also, stain medium you can use with any color acrylic. I'd like to hear what Glimmer of Life is. How wonderful you are doing this for them. Good luck!
havanaholly
I have an Arthur LE I had originally thought to do all in stains with folk art / tole painted exterior, but it won't talk to to me when I think of that; however it does purr when I think of it as a cottage; so we'll see what it says when I finally open the box.
rbytsdy
The stain-only plan reminds me of MidnightVoice's BH: http://www.greenleafdollhouses.com/forum/index.php?app=gallery&image=30430
Contrary Housewife
The only thing I can think to be aware of is bleeding. Lets say you have two rooms that are on the same piece of flooring and you want to do two different colors. The stain is going to want to travel along the grain lines and may seep beyond the demarcation line between the two rooms.
Narnia077
Glimmer of life is a small dog rescue http://glimmeroflife.com/ and as I have nine small rescues it close to my heart, putting my Garfield on the back burner lol thanks for info on pens, I also do wood burning so I'm going to add some touches with that :-)
havanaholly
If you score through the first layer of plywood (I use the back of my utility knife blade) between rooms you ought to be able to control stain bleeding. I would test on a piece of scrapwood to make sure it works, though.
morgansmith
Marie, I never would have guessed. What an angel you are. We have two pomeranian's that are our babies. They aren't rescues but most dogs in my family always have been, as well as cats. I will be cheering you on. What holly said about scoring works. However, it helps to use a fairly dry brush or otherwise at the edges. Using the gel medium I think it is, you get it at the craft store, to make any paint a stain, gives you more control. havanaholly
It also helps to mask off the edge of the adjoining room if you don't want to get any stain on the adjoining floor, and press the edge of the tape into your score line.
Dalesq
Hi I'm dolling a Arthur for Glimmer of Life Charity and am thinking of doing the whole house in different colors of stain! Has anyone done this, any advice Thanks Marie, I saw this image and thought of your question about a "stain only" house. I think this one is gorgeous.
Blondie
Oh that is BEAUTIFUL! I can't wait to see how this turns out. I have built the Arthur, but I didn't stain anything.
Dalesq
I think I might have to do this to a future build...completely finish, paint and paper the interior and finish the exterior like a a piece of furniture...make it match our rosewood table...hmmmm

Arthur :-( missing sheet # 5 think what I can do in mean time while I wait for it to arrive :-( Sorry to hear about your setbacks. Hope Bryon is better soon. These are the times when I look at wallpapers, options for floors, work on a furniture kit, cut out little book covers, that sort of thing.
