Sherry
So, I've been thinking about kachina dolls and woke up this morning wondering if I could carve one. Got out a 1/2 by 1/2 dowel and my Xacto knife and emery board and tried it. I was copying a 1930's doll in a museum (Googled him). I think he looks a lot more like Snoopy than any Hopi god! He's about 1 3/8 inches tall, and his 'earrings' are made from elk hairs and a blue seed beed. I kinda like him standing in the corner of my laptop. but I think I need to practice some more! MerriMagic
I hereby christen this little Kachina, "Snoopy". He's ADORABLE. You're really putting some great stuff into your TP, Sherry. We're all having great fun watching to see what you do next!
Sherry
Thanks, I like him, but will work on his face some more-eyes are too small, and age him a bit. I want to get Kolbi's furniture made this week, then I'll try some more Kachinas.
havanaholly
It's adorable!~ And I don't see why Kachinas can't look like Snoopy! I saw one that put me in mind of a sunflower!
Sherry
The new one is better, buying the mini files helped considerably with getting the teensy spots!
