Shakyshaky
What do you guys think of using poster board as siding? I want white so I would not need to paint it. Do you think I would need to seal it?
havanaholly
Before there was 1/32" stripwood/ veneer there was posterboard and this is where a papercutter is very nice to have. As for painting, if it's acidfree it will probably hold its color if you seal the bejeezus out of the wood below to keep the acids in the wood from leaching though over time to turn your posterboard brown & brittle. I would go ahead and seal it and give it a coat of white paint just on general principles. As usual, I would also suggest trying out your idea on scrap wood to see how you like it & how you want to proceed.
Wee Obsession
My very first house had that, back in the 70's I had to improvise!!!!
MiniMadWoman
What Holly said! This sounds very interesting and I'm curious to see how it turns out! Please share pictures with us!

Ms. Mini
I would go ahead and seal it and give it a coat of white paint just on general principles. ditto to what holly said. its always good to be safe. and that way you dont have to worry about painting around the trims someday when it starts to turn color a little! sounds like a great idea, i cant wait to see pics! Minis On The Edge
If you use acid free paper it should be fine. I know some people who have used White thin cardboard for there trim so they would not have to paint it <_<
Shakyshaky
Okay so I don't have any poster board around but I did find 4x6 cards. So the first atempt is waiting fo rthe glue to dry. I think I will paint over it just to give the whole thing a more uniform look. What spacing do you guys use? I did a sample with 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch. havanaholly
Maskingtape some of your siding strips in place to see what spacing is most visually pleasing to you. 1/2" lap = 6" 1:1, etc. The more lap you get, the more pronounced the lap will look. Shakyshaky
Okay so I tried to take a pic of the siding and it would not come out. I think it will work well though. I like the 1/2 inch spacing better I think. It looks like vinyl siding to me. If I was going for an older house I think I would go for the 1/4 spacing. Anna
And that is just regular card stock??? Wowser, looks great!!! Did you paint it or anything like that or is it "just" put in place? Like the effect it achieves! Hugs and thanks for sharing!
Shakyshaky
Yup it is just regular 4x6 cards. I have not done anything but glue it on yet. I will put one coat of paint over it just to make it all blend together with the trim.
havanaholly
That was what I was thinking with the paint. I think card makes nice siding, myself.

Ed_Cal
Suggestion....use high quality stock like Strathmore Illustration board (2 ply) cut into strips on a paper trimmer. try 1" strips wiht 1/4" overlap should look quite good in most cases Ed
