Museum Wax/Putty.. Which one?

I use tacky wax until I'm sure of the position I want to keep something in. After I'm reasonably sure of position I use a small amount of tacky glue and it always pops right off with a little pressure if I change my mind. I wouldn't risk that over wallpaper tho, if you think you might change your mind.  I worked in a dh shop that had items blue tacked to the walls of room box type showcases (80s era) used for sales displays. What a residue nightmare. I've used poster putty, it works ok but I don't like seeing the white. The wax is clear obviously but I don't like seeing even a little bit of wax either that's why I resort to a drop of tacky glue. I like the sounds of the rubber cement, gonna try that.  If you get wax on glass and want to clean it, it cleans up well with a paper towel and window cleaner.

The bull in the China closet thing.....Ditto! The struggle is real.
