ambourg71
I just recieved the Pioneer Log Home, I have made the San Fransico years ago, and need a little advise. Are there any glues or stains that people prefer over others. I have read earlier posts that have said that once glued together and then stained, the glue was coming undone? Thanks for the help.
avidcrazyquilter
I would use a good wood glue, and I prefer the gel stains, easier to work with. I am sure more experienced builders will have more ideas. Julie
havanaholly
Min Wax gel stains, but if you're going for authentic, I'd mix up a big batch of bug juice and age it silvery-gray. Whatever you plan to do, stain or treat the wood first and let it dry before gluing. You cannot stain over glue drips.
justmesue
I painted the cabin I built for my grandsons. I used tacky glue to assemble it. My DH built an RGT one and he used clear dilicone, and was very careful not to drip, then he sanded any might be gluey spots, and it stained o.k. I'm guessing too much of any liquid, has the potential to dissolve water based glue. I suggest you apply it sparingly with a soft cloth and rub it in, adding more till you reach the desired darkness. Wolfie
I'm a min-wax gal. And for glue I prefer the taste and feel of Elmer's Wood Glue......
chesterfieldzoo
If you want to stain it, do that before gluing. Stain will not go over glue if any seeps out of the seams. If you want to paint it, glue it first.
Jokelly
I'll respeat what everyone else has said...stain first! I built the Shenandoah Cabin and didn't stain every little piece and and now I regret it. But I love the house none-the-less.
