Hi guys..now that I know how to use my camera, and get the pics into my computer, I'd like to share my minis with you-all, but I don't know how to get the pics up here. Can someone walk me through the process? I have to warn you, I'm not too swift when it comes to technology, so tech jargon is lost on me. Sorry to be such a bother, but I tried to do this myself, and just got confused. Thanks in advance . Gosh, it's so good to be back !!!!

I would recommend having pictures under 150KB big for the forum, these seem to load better, otherwise I tend to get quite a few error messages. Click on 'My Album' up at the top of the page. Then click on 'New Album'. Put in an Album name and description, leave category as Member's Gallery, click on the box by 'Public' to tick it to let others in the forum see the pictures, decide how you want to order the pictures in the album (Upload date in descending order will put newer pics at the start of the album) and then click on 'Create Album'.

You will be taken to your Album control panel. To the right of your album there is a drop down list. Click on that and then click on 'upload image' (one picture at a time) or 'bulk upload' (multiple pictures at a time - but sometimes doesn't work if the pictures are too big or the forum is busy, then it takes too long and the website times out).

I'll describe for 'upload image'. Type in a title for your picture in the 'caption' bar and a description if you want in the big window. Click on 'Browse...' below the window. This will bring up an explorer window for your computer. Find and click on the picture you want to put in your Greenleaf album and then click on open. Then click on 'Post image' Tick the box beside it before clicking on it if you want an email when someone comments on your photo.

The next page will probably take a minute or two to load as it puts the picture from your computer onto the website. Then there should be your first picture! Just above the picture, click on the album name and it will take you to a page that will show all the album pictures rather than just the one picture. Here you can click on 'New Image' again to add the next picture.

You can try out bulk upload and ask if you have any questions about it.

Sometimes the picture takes too long to transfer from the computer to the website. In this case you might get an error message. Try a bit later, the forum may be a bit busy or if your picture file is bigger than about 150KB try making it a bit smaller.

Whew !!!!!! How am I going to remember all that when I'm away from this part of the community? I suppose I should hand copy (printer doesn't work) your directions (thank you very much, Muriel, you're very helpful) so I can read them when I'm over at that other place..see, I've already forgotten what you called it !!!! anyway, I'm going to try it a little bit at a time, whilst waiting for the paint on my Orchid to dry. Hope you don't mind hanging in there with this old lady as I stumble through this thing. Thanks again, Muriel..hugs !!!

Well, I've looked and looked, and this is all that I see up there...Gallery, Blogs, Dowlaoads, Links, Tutorial, Calendar, Search, Members, Help, Forum Guidelines, Forum Home, My Controls, View New Posts, My assistant, My Friends, 0 New Messages. then on the next line I see GLM Community, Min.Gorum, gen. Min. Talk. Honestly, I can't see My Album anywhere. Maybe it's near one of the above, and my eyes just aren't spotting it. Rats !!!!! I hate to be such a dunce, but there you have it. Thanks for your help, guys.

That would have been my suggestion to find the my albums bit, so well found by yourself! Maybe it doesn't show at the top of this page if you haven't created an album yet. I have had a look at your gallery page and it says there is an album called 'Brambley Hedge Cupboard' but it doesn't have any pictures in it that we can see yet. So now there should be a link at the top of this page with 'my albums'. For me it is just before 'My Controls'. If not, not to worry and find it how you found it before!

If you don't know how to open two pages at once so you can have this page open and your album page open, this is one way to do it. On your keyboard press 'Control' or 'Ctrl' and 'n' at the same time. This should open another copy of this page. If it fills the whole page and you can't see the other copy, there is a button at the very top of the window between the _ and the X which shoes one box in front of another. If you click on that, you will be able to resize the window by hovering over the edges of the window (your mouse will turn into a double ended arrow), clicking, and then dragging the mouse sideways. - have a play with it and see what you can do. If you click on the corners instead of the sides, you can make the window bigger and smaller from the side and top/bottom.

To move the window, click somewhere at the top of the window to the left of the _ , boxes and X and then drag the mouse to move the window to one side. You can then work on the other copy window and move it to the other side. Then you can see both! On one of them go to my albums and on the other read the instructions.

Good luck, and ask away if you've got more questions!

Muriel, you're a gem! a real-life, honest-to-goodness gem!!!!I went up to the top of the page, and yes, there she is...my very own albums! I would have posted pics, but we recently sent the computer out to be serviced, and the young man who did the job changed the security provider (without asking first), and when he brought it back it was a mess..all sorts of pop-ups, etc that we hadn't had before. He had to make a number of trips..lost money, poor soul, and now I find I can't put pics into my computer..something I was doing quite smoothly, thank you very much, nor can I send them out. I checked over at Prego, and no,l could only go as far as clicking on browse, but then none of my pics showed up. Same thing happened here. Is this something I could try to fix myself....with your help??? BTW your instructions are really, really good. Thanks so much for taking the time, and thanks to everyone who offered advice. This is such a lovely place to play in.

You're welcome! I'm happy to help when I can

Can you find the pictures on your computer at all, without opening a website? I'm not sure if I can help you much, it is difficult without having your computer in front of me to play around and figure stuff out :throw: If you can't find the pictures on your computer without opening the webpage, then you'll need to get someone to check if they are still on your computer.

I've just been playing around with my comp., and plugged in the camera. I can see my pics that way, after I go to my canon file (hope this is clear, I don't know the correct names of stuff). However, it's not the same way as it was before..I can't turn the pics, so some are sideways. I did figure out how to see them enlarged, and boy, the mice look great!! In fact, I might just leave them there, and give the cottages to some other little creatures. I digress. I did try to post them, but was told an error occurred, and remembering what you had told me, I wasn't alarmed by that, but then it said my pic was unsuitable. What does that mean? It was a pic of minis...maybe it has something to do with size? Well, thanks to your help, Muriel, I am learning more about my comp. and that's all good.

to resize your pictures if that is the problem you will have to open them in another program. I will walk you through doing this in paint.

Right click the picture

this will bring up a menu look for open with.

Choose Paint

at the top of the paint window look for resize

click that

now check mark next to pixels

change the horizonal number to 800, the verticle number will change on its own when you do that.

Click ok

Then if you want to save it in the smaller version just click save.

If you want to save the orginal large size you will have to rename the one you just changed.

Here is what I do with my photos I resize.

Somewhere on your desktop where there are no icons right click.

you will get a menu

Choose "New" and then "folder"

This will make a new folder on your desktop. name it dollhouses or something to that effect.

ok back to the paint program.

After you have resized the photo click "save as" I choose Jpeg

the next window that opens will be where you want it to go otherwise known as your destination folder.

choose Desktop, then look for the folder you just made, open it, (this is also where you can rename the picture just put what you want it called in the File name box) and then click save. Your new resized photo will now be in that folder where you can find it easily.

Ok now when you go to your album to upload photos click on browse/desktop/your folder/ and the picture you want to upload.

I find it so much easier if you rename the photos to what they are of, even if you must name them Brimbles1 Brimbles2 etc.

or what I do is

open power point.

paste the picture

Double click

On a top bar there should be buttons that say

Colors and lines ___ SIZE ___ Position ___ Picture ___ TextBox ___ Web

If you click on button that says size you will see;

a height next to that will be a bar. It shoud say for example 78 cm Put in 15, that's what I do

Click ok IT should be re sized.

Now click save as, and place it where you need to in your pictures. I usually create a folder for each.

I hope i didn't confuzzle you worse . . .

When you unplug your camera, are the pictures still in the canon file on your computer?

To turn them, try double clicking on the picture. This should make them bigger in another window. In that window there might be a turn button, or you might have to look around on the menu bar options to see if one of them says rotate. There are many different programs that open pictures, and they all have different ways of doing things, so can't give exact details without knowing what program your computer uses.

I did try to post them, but was told an error occurred, and remembering what you had told me, I wasn't alarmed by that, but then it said my pic was unsuitable. What does that mean? It was a pic of minis...maybe it has something to do with size?

Either it has something to do with the size, or more likely it is the type of file the picture is saved as. To change that, do it the way Rhonda described to resize, click 'save as' instead of 'save' when you've resized, and then change the 'Save as type' line to JPEG by clicking on the line and chosing jpeg. Not all file types are allowed in the album/on the forum, but jpeg is fine.

Thanks, guys...I've tried a few things since reading your posts...yes, the pics are still there when I (holding my breath!) unplug the camera. That's the good news. Double clicking gave me nothing, but right clicking gave me a nice little box that would have been useful for turning the pics, except that rt and lft turns were in pale ink (hope this is clear), and would not work. That's the frustrating part. When I went to the very opening screen of my comp. and clicked on start, I didn't get any power point or that paint thing (sorry, I think my mind is going blank on me...time for supper!) and that's the bad part. Anyway, knowing how you-all are helping me sure relieves the stress of all this. I can't thank you enough...one way or another, I'm sure I'll be able to share my minis with you. Onward and upward, I always say!!!

well, I plugged the camera back in...Abby, the black cat, is now very, very interested in this proceedure..I think she likes the wire...and got the pics up, and found a thing that said "get photos from canon PowerShot A1000 IS. So, I clicked on that, and all it did was run the whole lot of them over to a hard disk that will be availble at (and here we got into one of those 2 liners comprised of letters and numbers and dashes and what-all). Double clicking or right clicking on pics did nothing.

Hmmm, not sure what to suggest. Another way of opening paint is to click on start, then click on programs, then click on accessories, then click on paint. When that opens, click on file and then click on open. In the little popup window that opens find your canon file and then click on one of the pictures. Click on open. This should hopefully open the picture in paint and let you resize and save it as a jpeg file.

If it won't let you double click on it or right click on it, then opening it with paint like I described above might not work either.

wel, I've tried everything, I think, and my mind is now swimming...I think the best thing for me to do right now is to let this rest for awhile, and just go back to my Orchids. My son might be down for Mother's Day, and he showed me how to do all this the first time, so perhaps he can find another route for me. Thanks, everyone for your time and interest...I'm going to copy out all of your intructions...they were all good, and it could be that I'm too muddled right now to follow them correctly. I'm sure I'll be posting pics in the future, and when I do, I hope that you'll all feel that all this work was worth it!!! Hugs and a warm thank you to everyone...I'll still be posting, just not with pics right now. Thanks again.

No problem, I hope your son can figure something out with you. I think this will be a useful thread for others anyway that don't know how to post pictures yet!

Yes Hopefully your son can figure this out for you. I for one am puzzled as to where the photos are actually being stored on your computer. Have you looked in Start/ pictures ?

That is where most pictures are default uploaded too from cameras. Perhaps if you find them in there you can manipulate them.
