JaimieMarvon
Still working out some of my kinks with my "bashing" of The Garfield. My main "problem" is my roof. Glued some pieces of the porch roof together without the correct angles. When I tried to attach it didn't sit right. So after I painted and glued I had to crack it apart. I've yet to sand it and re-glue at the correct angle. I started on the porch floor. Decieded to used the skinny sticks to make a nice hardwood floor. I will be sanding it down to make it smooth when its complete. Plus I still have to fix all the edges as well. I will not be doing the porch railings that came wiht teh Garfield. Trying to do somewthing more creative with a bit of a modern twist to the look. I also put some scallopped gingerbread on the front of the house. I'm still debating about putting it on the gables on the side as well or just leaving it on the front only. Don't want it to looks like too much gingerbread. Will not be putting up the Victorian trim that came with the Garfield. I'm more of a modern victorian style girl. Don't like all that fancy trim, looks like too much stuff on the house. Updated pics here. Take a look and tell me what you think. Should I put the scalloped gingerbread on the side as well? If so, should I make it the same length as the front? Or maybe the Far left one on teh side should be the same length and the one that is in the middle should be a little smaller. So it looks a little different? I was also thinking of maybe having each row a different color. See link to pis of house near me that I LOVE!! Depends on if I ever decide what color to paint the windows! Can't decied to play it safe and go with a tan, or do the colors I love, Shades of purple, just afraid it will look like a candy house or something

I also like purple (just not a whole lot of it, and not the violet shades), and this one has been quite versatile.
JaimieMarvon
You're right. The darker shades may work real well with the white house and the black roof. I'll print a few test colors from teh computer and see how it looks up against the house. Thanks!
gemlady
I like the colors that you chose. I did mine in the grays and trimed in off-white. There will be shutters in the top windows in the gables and the front door that will be in burgandy. I seen those colors in a paint brosure that was for extiors for houses and really fell in love with the look. The only thing that stumps me with the shutters is the oval windows, I want shutters on them, but when I tried to make the shutters oval to fit the windows it looks like a big mouth with ears D0D . I like the way you did the roof I like the black it really stands out, when you paint the gables it will really come together. what color are you going to do your floor of the porch floor? Donna Thanks Donna! Yes, I like your grays. I'm not sure what color I will do the proch floor. I guess it dependson what colors I decide for the windows and gable gingerbread! I just can't decide!! Its killing me  that I can't choose a color. I'm so torn... But I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go with the darker shades of purple like havanaholly mentioned. Worse comes to worse I can always re-paint, I guess!
dollshousegirl
I love the way you have done the porch floor with the skinny sticks, what colour are you going to stain those
parisbabe
I'm thinking that stagering the colors like that might draw the eyes to that one particulr area instead of the whole house. Maybe start dark then fade to light then you get your colors but it blends to feature the whole house. Anyway thats just my opinion. You do what looks good to you. JaimieMarvon
OHhhh! what a good idea. I put a few samples together. Let me know what you think. click here for color choices. This is the house near me that I think looks beautiful. I'm still wondering if I should make the scallops on the side of the house as well. JaimieMarvon
I did a little more work on the porch last night. I clipped off all the odd ends of the skinny sticks. Guess I could have avoided a blister If I had just measured all the sticks better, but I was going for a more random look. I also gave the porch a trim border. I didn't like the way it looked with all the rough edges showing. I think it makes it look much neater. I may leave it as an open porch for now, with just a few roof supports. I can always re-do it later and add railings of I decide I don't like it.
