My Half Scale House

stillworkin

Completely from scratch, loosely based on the Morris-Butler House. I found plans on the Library of Congress website. Foam insulation construction, bricks are sandpaper.

What a stunning house and made completely from scratch - my hats off to you. I am struggling with a kit - you have renewed my ambition to produce something beautiful although it won't be in your league. Well done to you. I am looking forward to seeing pics of the rest of the house.

Cheers

Thank you for all your nice compliments. The house was actually easy to build. Just start out by cutting the floors by the measurements given in the plans, then add walls. The real house this is based on has 1 foot thick walls throughout the house so the 1/2" foam worked out perfectly in half scale. For the bricks I took three colors of paint, a reddish brick color, an orangish color and brown and painted sheets of sandpaper with it, dabbing the colors on randomly and blending them together. I cut the sandpaper into strips, then hold several strips together and cut them into bricks. I painted the house a mortar color, then a small section at a time I paint on some glue then stick a brick to it. Since the bricks are so small I found it was easiest to lay them out on the table and pick them up by lightly poking a needle into them then positioning them onto the wall. The bricks aren't all exactly the same size but I think it adds a little more realism to the look.
