peggyquade
Here are two pictures of Sheila's Pierce staircase with a light colored wood trim and a cherry wood trim. Thanks to Evervescent for the inspiration for the design! I'm not sure which one I like better...what do you think? I have put additional photos in my photo album. Just a note: if I use the lighter wood, I would age it so it would be darker in the crevices. Thanks for your help everyone!
Peggi
I like the lighter wood. Do you know what kind of wall treatment she is going to use? If so that may help you decide.
wenlaine
I love the lighter one as well. Looks great.
Adallae
I like the lighter one, too, but I agree with Peggi - knowing what will be on the walls might help you decide. In Victorian homes, I love the way dark wood looks with heavier, busier wallpaper.
ilovecats
I like them both but am leaning toward the darker panels. Just cuz your staircase is darker and it will match better...plus like everyone says, depends on your wall treatments and flooring!
Charlene
I like the lighter one as well but it is Victorian and they used dark wood, soooo, I guess it depends on how true to period you want to be. Looks great so far :thumb:
peggyquade
Thanks for your feedback! You are right, it does kind of depend on what Sheila wants to put on the walls so I'll keep both mock-ups and let her decide when she decides on the wallpaper. For the flooring, the original plywood has aged to a nice color so she's having me scribe lines in the plywood floor, 1/4" apart, creating the illusion of individual strips of wood, then I'm going to lightly wipe on a "special walnut" stain to darken the scribed lines, wipe it off quickly so the surface of the floor doesn't darken too much. So, the floor will be a medium dark color. Thanks again for your feedback, it really helps!
havanaholly
Peggy, that's basically how I make my wood floors, except I go back and stagger the "board" ends scribing across and then put in nail holes with an awl.
