I wish I had made the slanty part that is the fireplace chimney longer, because now that I've got the range hood in place you can hardly see it. I measured and cut everything out before I decided to add trim to the bottom of the hood.
I cut leftover wood from the sheets I punched the house pieces out of to make the hood, so that the wood would match the walls. The decorative thingy on the top of the front of the hood is from the part of the widow's walk railing I cut off the roof. I mounted it high on the front instead of low because I may add a shelf that sits just above the copper trim, to sit bottles of spices on. It would have been easier to put the shelf on during the build, but I'm not sure how much accessory stuff I've got to decorate the kitchen with, so don't want to get too carried away gluing in shelves now that I may not be able to fill later.
The pipe on the range is a piece of bendy drinking straw painted black. I glued a short piece of dowel to the top of the range that it sits over. The pipe isn't glued in place because I'm not sure of the longetivity of paint on plastic and may need to remove it periodically for touch-ups.
