Maybe a heater or small fireplace, a rug and some plants?

Good suggestions from Shannon, but plant's remind me of Doctor's waiting rooms too.. lol

I was going to suggest a shag cushion. or a bean bag... you don't find them in the waiting room.

I think you're right.  It was really the 70's.

Put the dog on the couch -- that should help!  A rug should help.  I think it looks nice.
