The rug was originally supposed to have a red background.  The nice part of doing cross-stitch is you can pick your own colors.  :-)

Love the rug, I used to do a lot of crossstich, guess I will have to resurrect that!  I am thinking about the Fairfield, but probably later in midwinter since the farm is so busy now.
