Slate Tiled Porch!

Myangela

Yea! After spending two days on the egg carton disaster, the slate look I had envisioned did work out this time. I did grout, though. Really wanted to see the pattern. I used Lightweight Hydrocal, by Woodland Scenics. A staple in model railroading. It's similar to plaster Paris, but lighter weight. I used it on the terra cotta tiles on the floor of the conservatory.

BTW, I'd like to know where to send off for my merit badge for my attempt to turn egg cartons into stone.

Yes, it was. Thank you for relating your own story about the fireplace. I know my husband and daughter shake they're heads many times when I'm working on an aspect of this project, but I charge down the road, and when I get it right, even they agree, it was worth the effort. The egg carton look was so wrong, I can't believe I thought I could get even close to the look I had in mind! But, I did learn so much from that effort, there really should be a Merit badge award system, please! It just wasn't right for this project. I've met so many wonderful "virtual" people during my work on this house, (you, for one), I hope to eventually meet as many as I can in person at one of the events.
