Bungalow porch

I was going to go with no railing. Then I thought I should add a railing, Then I wasn't so sure, so I took pictures to ask for opinions, but then as I looked at the pictures, maybe I don't need that front porch rail afterall.

There will be shrubs and flowers in front of the porch and steps on the right front side.

Do you think it'll be just as good with no porch railing or with???

I don't have enough of the right dowels, etc. to make the darn thing, which means I'd have to go to the store and I know if I don't get most of the porch done today, I might not get back to it for days.

I'm thinking more and more.....forget the railing. The shrubs and flowers will be lovely, after all the porch isn't very high, don't need a railing, right???

Houses around here that have that kind of porch pillar don't usually have railings between the pillars. Perhaps a handrail on either side of the steps would be nice?

Love the porch..if you make the steps kinda wide and only one or two steps I do not think it would need any rails..

I shall now go and finish gluing the posts in place,etc and do some more brickwork. :whistle:

One advantage to "no rails" on a porch is that it is easier to view the furniture/flowers that you place on the porch. It also gives the illusion to a very small porch of being roomier.

There is lots of houses here in the south that don't have rails, especially with the square posts.

I like a porch with no rails......here you see alot with the square post like Peggi was talking about or column poles....
