WyckedWood

I started on this new kit yesterday, the jasmine cottage by laserdollhousedesigns. Its very different than what Im use to, because its 1/4 inch plywood. Its a neat experience to try something different, but Im still adjusting. I cant get over the feeling that its clunky, even though it really isn't clunky, its very nice looking, Im just so used to a thinner wood. Im sure Id feel the same if I ever did a 1:12 RGT. So, anyway, so far I have the first floor put together and Ive started work on the paperclay brick porch and the exterior walls which will be just a stucco paperclay treatment. I also have the base painted, all the trim will be white. I have a love/hate thing going on with the trim. While its just beautiful and lovely with all of the scrolls and whatnot, its a nightmare to paint inside all of those tight loopdeedoos. Plus it thrashes the paintbrush. It was too late after I started with the white, but I really wish I had gone with a green stain, a stain would have been so much easier, although the grain of this wood is somewhat large for a stained finish. The white will look good, if I can keep my sanity while painting it all. The windows are very different, the plexiglass fits right inside the opening and the interior/exterior frames (identical) sort of float, centered over the window. I hope I can get them lined up properly.

There are areas of the design that are very tight with barely enough room for a paintbrush. I thought of spray painting, but as thick as the wood is, I didn't want to risk the spray paint getting clumpy. Thank you, its a neato house.

I stained a bunch of it on my Jasmine, and it was easier... I am cursing the Little Anns since I am painting all the trim.... there is A LOT of trim to paint with all the loopdeedoos :)

I've been wondering about these houses. Hmm.... I don't think I'd make it through multiple layers of the trim paintings. Also, interesting that it's so thick. It will be fun to watch you work on this! :)

Im sure its more difficult to do a multi color scheme as you are Kelly.

When I worked at the dh shop there were several of the Mellissa and Doug houses (pre built) that's what it reminds me of. Except these are fancier with the trim.
