Patches is our matriarch, she's almost 17 years old now. I first saw her outside, when I was raising an orphan litter of kittens in my office. I looked out the window and there she was. I looked at her, and said "I do not want another cat." and closed the window.

Six months later I brought her in the house. I actually adopted her not long after I first saw her, but she was an outside cat for four months. Then it snowed, and she became trapped beneath our house. I opened the window from our half basement, and said "Come on in." She's been an indoor cat ever since.

Patch is definitely The Boss. She'll even smack our big ol dog, Bud, if she thinks he's out of line. He'll run from her, too!

I love my four kitties. I have a calico kind of like yours but her black and gold have more stripes. Mine never go out. Seventeen is way older than mine but She looks very healthy.

Actually, in RL she's definitely showing her age..her fur is grizzled, and dry, and she's almost painfully thin. We've had her to the vet and he says she's ok..just showing her advanced age.

Update on Patch...we almost lost her. Turns out her thyroid is malfunctional. Now she gets a gel salve that is massaged into the inside of her ear, twice a day. It's gentler than wrapping her up in a towel and forcing a pill down her throat. In spite of her fragility, she's still the boss.
