Living room rug

otterine

Another needlepoint project with mixed results. I used a website to generate a pattern from an image, and that part worked very well. It was a lot of work - approximately 60 hours worth - and I wish I could say I love it. Needlepoint is choppy because of the directionality of the stitches, and this design had very fluid and organic shapes. With smaller, busier designs, needlepoint works very well. I also didn't like that the cloth showed through in a lot of areas. Using more than two strands of embroidery floss wouldn't have worked; it would have been too thick for the holes of the cloth. But, I have a few ideas, so I'll keep working on it. More on my blog about the pattern making process.

Thanks for the votes of confidence, my friends! I think we're our own worst critics. The rug is growing on me...I think I just needed to step back from it. :D

Brae, You can "fill" in those areas that show thru with colored Sharpies like pens that match the various areas. Use them lightly and it gives a slight verying shading. I have done that on some of my larger pieces rather then use additional threads.
