I have been wanting to try and do a brick house. Here is my first try.

Oh, Ann . . . as is always the case, your work is just beautiful! In fact, I have one of these houses that is in dire need of being rehabbed, and you have inspired me now to think about doing it in brick. I think this looks just fabulous . . . it gives a completely different look to this house!

Oh thanks! It was a lot easier than I thought. I was afraid I would mess it up but it was a lot of fun.

It looks great! Can I ask what you used to brick with? I'm considering bricking one of my builds.

Sure, I used "brick tape" which goes on after you paint the house the color you want the grout to be. Then I mixed some joint compound, sand and white glue to make the brick. I smoothed it on the house and then lifted the tape right away and let it dry 24 hours.

Ann! I love what you did with this house! I am thinking of making the Orchid for my first house but I really am not in love with all the gingerbread work and the dormers. I have NO experience in modifying anything so may I ask how you took the dormers out without messing up the upstairs? Sorry....told you I am clueless! I wouldn't try bricking but would love to make it like the house I grew up in and this looks very close to it!

Hi, Well when you open the box the roof dormers are like punchouts in the roof of the house. If you would rather not have them just do not punch them out. You will be putting shingles on your roof so it won't show the lines of the punch out and on the interior just use some wallpaper and again, you will not be able to see the lines where the dormer would have been punched out. Does that make any sense? As for the gingerbread, that is all separate sheets of wood so if you don't want to use them you just discard it.

Hope that helps. Don't be intimidated to try and build a house. The instructions that come with them are very easy to understand and take you step by step without any confusion really.

Ann

I love your houses. The Orchid is beautiful and I am favorite to the Arthur. I did one myself this past year you can see it on my gallery.
