It is a very strange configuration on the ground floor, with a matching archway in the downstairs interior wall, but it's upside down, and has very unsightly wooden bars on both sides of the wall, to hold the wire in place.

Looks like the old fashioned lighting techniques I've seen in my books. They did all kinds of ugly things to light houses back in the day.
