Garfield Staircase

Creamcheese

I stained the staircase in red chestnut and added lots of wainscot/wood to resemble wood paneling. By staining the entire staircase I also eliminated trying to figure out which wallpaper to use on each side of the staircase. In researching Victorian decorating many used a lot of wood in their homes. I am also planning on installing wainscot in the dining room and the living room to continue the rich and warm look. Most of the flooring I will use the plank flooring (actually vinyl strips I got from GL) which looks like oak flooring. I will cut the strips various lengths so it appears to be wood planks. Making the staircase was quite time consuming after all the sanding, pre-staining, staining, sealing and glueing. After that it seems like the rest is relatively easy.....well, except for doing the foundation but I'm so new at this that that's probably why things take me so long! Part of the 2nd floor staircase is visible in the background.

Thank you! I think the staircase is so central to the Garfield that I really wanted to make it stand out. Too bad that much of it will not be readily seen once all the walls and floors get installed but one can peek through the windows and doors to see it!

And thank you for your positive comments! Cheryl, I also thank you for directing me to the correct schematic for the dining/living room partition and I also found the wood for the curvilinear 1st/2nd floor bay/window seats. I already got some Victorian room dividers which I hope to be able to incorporate with the partition. This all helps put it all together. I should have checked the schematics before I raced ahead!!!!!!
