Constructing window frames

dooder85

I still am flying by the seat of my pants on this window, but I suppose it makes sense that I require frames to hold my "glass". The glue is drying on these right now, will have to putty and stain after the fact.

On future projects, you may want to stain the wood before you glue it. You're going to find that the stain won't darken the glue spots. You'll have to touch up with tiny dabs of acrylic paint.

Thinking about assembling the window -- I think I'd glue the 3 frames together with a piece of bamboo skewer in the two open Vs formed by the edges of the frames. The bamboo will give it strength and can be smoothed over with putty or Spackle or whatever. You won't be able to stain it, but I've been having a good experience matching craft paint to the stain I'm using. It's not noticable.
