Adding a wall?

CatColorado

Like most, I don't like stairs opening into a bedroom but I wanted to be able to see the top banister of the staircase I added. My solution, I think, will be a wall with an open door. I've drawn in the wall and doorframe on the photo to give an idea of what it may look like. I'll want to add a door too.

My other dilemma is whether to add a second staircase to reach the third floor. Where would I put it? It's a straight piece. I could cut it I guess. In either case, it would be in the second bedroom... unless I made that room into a sitting room and split the attic into two bedrooms.

No bathroom in this house. Unless I tuck it in the corner of the kitchen next to the window.

If you extend the dividers on both floors, it will give you some more wall space, if that would help. The RGT farmhouse doesn't have stairs from second to third floor. I don't think you need it.

It's hard to see, but these rooms are fairly large for the scale. On the first floor I am toying with the idea of adding a half wall to outline a dining area between the kitchen and living room. I want to be able to see the stairs, and I want to see into the kitchen, so I am thinking a half wall is the way to go.

I see what you are saying about the divider on the second floor. That wall is a false wall and isn't glued in or anything, I am still debating on what to do and whether I can squeeze in a third room on that floor. I think I need some kind of windows on that third floor.

Can you continue the stairs up against the back wall? I like the the idea of a wall / door separating the room. Just a peek of the stairs is really nice on the second floor.

I'd have to split the staircase if I ran it along the back wall because of the roofline. I may split it anyway and put a closet/bookcase/storage room/ something under the stairs.

How about a dropdown attic staircase? It doesn't have to be ugly to be a dropdown: you can paint and stencil it.

I love the wall with the staircase revealed through the door.

I think I know what I'm going to do! I'm going to borrow a room box trick and use faux stairs. That way I don't have to cut additional holes. I got my books from Petite Properties and I getting all kind of ideas that I can adapt for my farmhouse. :ohyeah:

I too love the look of wall with staircase showing. I don't like having a staircase opening into bedroom. I used disappearing attic stairs in my McKinley and looks great with banister I made in attic but also like the idea of faux steps. I'd love to see how that turns out. I have to create some type of staircase from 2nd floor to attic in Fairfield.
