Dining Buffet - Left

I bought these dishes from HBS at 20% off. I think some of the pieces are a little larger than 1:12 but I so wanted the black and red that I figured I could overlook it (I know, some of you are cringing... sorry).

I felt strongly about not having dishes with pink on them (which seems to be the most popular kind out there). I also didn't want plain white because the tables will have ivory cloths on them and the white just wouldn't show up. I also needed to find a fairly inexpensive set because to get settings for 6, not just 4, I'd have to buy 2 sets.

I did bid on an antique Blue Willow set on eBay... the set was absolutely gorgeous and was a set of 8. Sadly, the top bid was $76... way out of my range.

When I saw these, I was tickled not only because of the black and red but because there were 4 mugs plus 4 cups/saucers, and in addition to the 4 regular plates, were 4 oval plates. This gave me more than enough to work with on my tables. As you can see, this was a pretty big set because there are excess plates & bowls stacked on both buffets plus 3 more platters and another teapot.

Actually some restaurant ware is a bit larger and sturdier than regular china (I live near the Homer Laughlin pottery so I know alot about that stuff!)

Some pieces are okay a little large (and I'm used to plates & bowls being thick) but sometimes the tea pots are just silly. When I think about their proportion to the RL ones, I realize I'd need 2 hands just to pick them up. Worst is when you use them in a setting with other items. Like this tea pot next to a copper dutch oven I have on the stove looks like play scale vs 1/2".

I know Homer did other ware but I love Fiesta. I have several original serving and decorative pieces that were used by my grandparents when I was a little girl but my everyday dishes are just ones from Penneys.
