Outside Finished

Even though painting is the part I hate most, I pushed myself to get it done on this one (so often, I leave the painting until last and then never finish it).

I like your colors. I never would have thought of using black except for shutters. It really looks very dramatic with the red and white. How did you cose the openings in the floors for the stairs?

In real life, dark red ("Colonial Red" by Red Devil) is my favorite color and I love combining it with either black & creamy ivory or chocolate brown & robin's egg blue. I got a little of all of that in this house.

While I love the crispness of white (and it surely would have shown better detail on the windows and porch), I really wanted this house to be striking. I guess I could've done dark red walls with white trim but that'd be a little too barn looking.

There's actually a house up the road (a fake Victorian) from mine with similar coloring... butter with dark, dark forest green and burgundy trim.

For the holes in the floor, I used 2 pieces of glued-together 3/16" foam core and traced out the hole. Its almost an exact fit; the foam is a smidgen higher. So, rather than trim down the thickness of the foam, I squished it under paint cans for a couple of days. That took out some of the air and made it just right. Certainly not artisan work!

I tried the foam core and it was just a tad too thick. I'll have to try the weights. It's so much easier to cut than wood. I wish RGT would leave in the cut out piece.
