Faux Bricks

pdlnpeabody

When weight or width become a problem for the real bricks, I have made bricks from wood. while the width can be varied, the length and height are always the same- 1/8" high and 3/4" long. For this panel I sanded 1/8"X1/16" strips to a smooth finish. Next I scored the strips every 3/4" and cut with an exacto knife. The panel they're glued to was measured and marked so the mortar joint would be level. After they're installed and the glue has cured, I mixed a small amout of mortar and grouted the panel the same way I grout tile. After wiping away any residue with a wet sponge, I waited a day for the mortar to dry. The last step is to paint the bricks.
