Figuring out STAIRS

After my 1st stage floor, I was figuring for about 3 hours.  The stair rise and step are premade.  I will have to add 1/4" dowel, no big deal.  After doing and doing and thinking.  I finally made a POSTER BOARD stringer and cut it the height of the wall.  I found I could turn the poster board and I have my pattern, how cool is that.  Now those of you who know this, no laughing.  I am not a carpenter or architect.  I put this photo up because I was looking at the downton abbey stairs and love the wainscot along the wall.  MMMMM....we can do that.

As I was waiting for this inspiration photo to load and I do know I put it up a lot, I SAW the WAINSCOT.  I love it.

What a wonderful way to decorate the wall of the stairs.  Since MY STAIRS are contemporary and modern, the

wainscot will be fashioned, I think.

Linda, I love wainscoting also, I look forward to seeing yours. I stained mine dark to match my staircase, but then found it covered up all the Gothic detail of my balusters. I told my husband just the other day if I revisit wainscoting it will have to be a light color.
