Selkie 4,484 Posted September 19, 2015 This is a huge collection of beds! Are you planning to market some? It might help fund your mini addiction. Quote Link to comment
sage minis 466 Posted September 19, 2015 I've thought of that. Especially since the last 5 beds have no planned destination. Mini addiction is right - that is why I try to be a bargain hunter and so many of my bits are second hand or made.If selling - not sure which venue is best. Quote Link to comment
Creamcheese 414 Posted September 20, 2015 Finally had a chance to look at your photos and the bedding you created is gorgeous! Quote Link to comment
sage minis 466 Posted September 20, 2015 Thanks so much. I think creating bedding is so much fun because I've always loved plotting out how fabrics play off each other. At times with bedding you can use 6-8 patterns in one application without looking too busy or jumbled. The fabric plotting was my favorite part when I quilted many years ago. And that was one of my favorite parts of designing interiors. Quote Link to comment
Creamcheese 414 Posted September 21, 2015 Using many patterns that work well together is something I have always been drawn to. I have an old catalog from Laura Ashley that I used to leaf through and she did the same and it was so beautiful to see the various mixes of patterns and colors. Your design background is showing through! I also have an art background which is why having a free hand with miniatures is so creative and fun for me and it sounds like it is for you too. Wow! So you did quilting too? I started a big quilt many years ago but never quite got it finished. It was one of those quick quilts using a sewing machine for most of it but now my sewing machine is not working very well. I have quite a collection of quilts that I got at the flea markets in CA. plus a couple my Oma (grandmother) made. Oh, and when I researched Victorian decorating they also used many prints, colors and designs too in their decorating. Quote Link to comment
sage minis 466 Posted September 22, 2015 You are right - the Victorians were known for layering pattern on pattern. I love to look at that but could not live in such busy rooms in RL. But I do love a very eclectic look with vintage furniture mixed in - but prefer contemporary art - in the mix.My quilting was primarily baby quilts and soft sculptures. I only did the squares for one big quilt - a 20's style Sun Bonnet Sue. Grew up sleeping under quilts made by distant relatives and to this day love that weight and texures to sleep under. Maitlasse (SP?) is also a favorite feel - love all that stitching. i remember the Laura Ashly years. Her catalogue had a traditional English high sided sofa - that I love. Want to try making it in mini. The sides are too high of a style for my husband to find confortable - so no go. ( I've had him sit in several.) Quote Link to comment
Creamcheese 414 Posted September 23, 2015 Oooooh, I would love to see it if you make a Laura Ashley inspired traditional English sofa and with lots of colorful fabrics in miniature! That would really be special. Yes, in real life we do have to consider our other family members when we choose furnishings; that's why in the miniature world we have a free hand in what we do. sage minis 466 Posted September 23, 2015 Yes indeed, no need for practicality. The sofa is sometines called a Knoll sofa. The hunt will be for a mini tapestry type fabric with only 1 or two companion fabrics. The style of sofa is seen in Downton Abbey in the sitting room with Red (I think) velvet sofas At the top corners there are finials with tassels hanging from them. .If I could have them in RL I'd want the upholstery to be a simple solid color or subtle stripe linen blend. My mini people have more ornate or busier taste than me! My personal RL taste is closer to my Zen House but with no clear acrylic shelving or tables etc.and more vintage pieces thrown in the mix. I do not have a meditation room - my mediation is crafting. . . Quote Link to comment
