Kitchen

Cheverly

I need to get different kitchen furniture. I'm thinking something a little more modern, but that will fit with the doorway. I'm also confused as to why the floor is partially carpet...

Does the transition from carpet to hardwood correspond with the transition from flowered wallpaper to green? Maybe she was trying to give the impression of two distinct rooms.

Good theory, and that could have been the case. They're off by almost an inch though, so I dunno. Also, she left the white border of the paper (complete with "2003 Jean Brodnax") which BUGS me so the kitchen has a makeover in its future.

Personally, I like the kitchen. I would keep the furniture, but I like the country kitchen effect.

My guess is that the previous owner wanted to bring out the bay window with the wallpaper/paint contrast. Also, the flooring may have been done to give the effect that there is a rug on the hardwood floor. That's what I thought when I first viewed the kitchen.

I like the kitchen too, but I've always imagined the kitchen furniture in my Dura-Craft Victorian. Once it's built my kitchen here will be empty.

I guess what I could do is simply paint over the wallpaper border on the sides. I love the way the paint matches the wallpaper, it's just so random right in the middle of the wall.

I'd cover the border with strip wood or some sort of molding - less chance of messing up the wallpaper than if you try to paint over the border.

If you're thinking of a more modern kitchen, is there some way you can use cabinets (uppers and lowers) to your advantage to cover up most of the green? Not sure what to do about the doorway though, it's kind of too late to close it off since you'd then have to repaper the living room side of the wall.

Strip wood! You're a genius! Besides, perfectly matching the paint would be an issue anyway.

Even though I have to re-do the paper in the living room anyway (staining), I don't want to close off the doorway. How else would my people get into the kitchen? I like the upper cabinet idea though. What I could do is just repaper both sides of the kitchen and leave the back wall green. It's amazing how well it matches the paper so I kind of hate to cover it up completely.
