So far so good!

I'm building my first house for my niece for Christmas. So far the construction has gone fine. I still have to tackle the shingles. It's only taken me a week to get to this point. The only problem I'm having is with the electicity. I did everything right with the tape, because according to the tester, it works. When I plug in an outlet, no lights. I put the tester immediately before the socket and after and it lights up. I did use my tiny bit on my Dremel to make pilot holes. Could this be the problem? I can't figure out what the problem could be. The light fixtures do work. If the drilling is the problem, what else can I use to make pilot holes for the sockets, because that MDF is so hard! Also, would it be better for me to use the eyelets to plug in my fixtures instead of the plugs? Thanks.
