A topic and ite replies are referred to as "threads". This seems pretty standard throughout internet forums I've been on, not just here.

Lingo is always a neat subject. Recently I got a cellphone for my parents (80 and 79 years of age). Today my mum was telling me that they put their phone on the charger when they're down to 2 bars. I had to laugh, it was just a few months ago that she first used mine to talk to my sister and she held the phone about 6 inches from her ear and looking like she doubted she'd hear my sisters voice on the other end.
