glen
Can anyone tell me Thinning oil paints for pictures turps thins it and leaves it gloss finish Is it castor oil you use to thin and get a matt finish?? Glen
havanaholly
Turps helps the paint to dry faster, linseed oil thins it and gives a satiny finish. I haven't painted in oils since the university (>40 years ago!) but I seem to remember turps giving a more matte finish if you thinned the oils to the consistency of water colors (gaive some exquisite effects, too).
