Front door grid detailing

otterine

With the opening for the front door assembly cut, I could finish the grid for the main front. I slipped the door into the new opening and taped the previous grid in place. I cut two vertical pieces to finish the sides of the front door and a short horizontal just above the door. The upper canopy (shown here with foam core board and wood scraps) will disguise the fact that these verticals don't match with the upper existing design. Since the horizontal along the top doesn't match either, I opted to leave off the horizontal detailing. This makes the door panel its own design element. The overall grid still works as a cohesive design with the front door now a focal point.

looking beautiful.....

I understand the walls for the original kit are the grids and filler pieces (and that you added the inside backer board).... how does the interior floors and such connect to the exterior walls... the construction of this house is so different from the tab and slot houses I am used to, and I am greatly intrigued

Thank you!! :D

In the original kit, you just glue them in place. I don't think this is the sturdiest way to do that, but I don't have the proper setup for making channels in the wall boards. So, I'll be padding the walls on the sides. In the front, I left pieces of the backer board in the bay area to hold the front portion in place. Crown trim will take care of the rest. :D More on this to come...

ahhhhh, I understand now.... I was very curious.

I did something similar in Ally's Harry Potter Tower.... I used dowels wrapped in brick wallpaper in the corners and the crown molding to hold the floors up.... :)
