Handmade house

elfprincess

I just bought this wee beauty on eBay. It called my name! Sure, it needs a lot of work, but... I think it might form part of my moderne dream house. The flat roof, alone, fits my vision.

This house is a one-off, built by the seller's late father. She stated that she hoped it would go to someone who would restore it, because it was once much loved, and would (she added) delight any little girl.

Am I addicted? YES! Am I, right now, 'watching' a second hand-made, OOAK house? YES, again!

I always hoped, at some point, to modify one or more existing, probably rundown houses so as to 'save' them and transform them into something beautiful. All doll's houses deserve to be loved and cherished! The difficulty of sourcing affordable Art Deco houses, furniture etc has forced me to attempt a serious bash, right away. I don't want to wait until I've fixed up my Edwardian House, nor my Victorian/Edwardian shops, nor my Worthington, nor my Willow, nor any of the others bought on impulse.

I wish, now, that I hadn't been so hasty in recent months. Had I waited a bit longer I'd have been better qualified to identify the periods and styles that really appeal to me. But I jumped in, feet-first, bedazzled! Now I must consider the possible re-sale of a couple of houses, at least one shop, and two large Sylvanian Families (Calico Critters) hotels.

This house reminds me of and early 20th century tenament home, and I can see why it appealed to you. From the outside, it is already adorable, and I believe it was well loved. I am glad you found it and can't wait to see what you will do with it.

You're right - it really does resemble a tenement block! I grew up in one in Glasgow many years ago. Red sandstone. It really is adorable, and today the seller made me a bit tearful.. She told me that her little niece, who used to play with it, is really happy it's going to a loving home.
