I then constructed the side and wrapped it around the corner...right now, this is just sitting on the divider, and the staircase is just resting against the built-in unit...I plan to make the staircase and built-in unit one piece, and fill in the holes, paint, etc., but I'm really happy with these results as this was my first attempt at something like this...
