This is sitting closer to the edge in the back and has another inch added to the base on this side. A board is resting on the bottom wall to make it taller, leaving a shelf on the living room side. I may go with this rather than making the entire wall taller. Pretend like the top piece isn't sagging while I wasn't paying attention.

I like the added height. My parents' house has a similar cut out with a shelf. It very handy. I call it the "wall hole."

I both love and hate that fridge. It's something I bought years ago and have used but dislike. The handle would never work there on a full sized fridge and the inside is so very unfridge-like.

I know how I'll finish the top of the low wall but I'm pondering how I'll have that back piece attached in regards to the pillars. I am debating giving them a plaster treatment to make them more decorative but then the question would be, how do I treat the little wall that's sitting behind them? Hmmm.
