Floors
Li'l Miss Rabbit insisted on unpainted wood floors. Together we decided to make them of 6" pegged planks. I measured off half-inch "boards" and scored the lines with the back of a utility knife. The floor is 11" wide, and 8' is a reasonable length for the planks, so I measured in 3" from each side, then scored plank end lines on alternating rows.
I used a light application of walnut stain. The scored lines did not show up well, so I got out the fine tip markers and darkened them a bit. I also added the "pegs" with the marker. One floor came out darker than the other, so I used a brown marker on one and a black marker on the other.
(I'd started to stamp the pegs with a small brass rod, but I'm glad I didn't. They wouldn't have shown up, either.)
Tonight they'll dry, and tomorrow I can add the satin finish water-based polyurethane. It says to wait 24 hours after staining.
Li'l Miss Rabbit was pleased with the way the floors turned out.
