Foyer to kitchen pocket door - foyer / parlor
I've wanted to try making a pocket door for some time now, and KathieB has a wonderful tutorial on her blog for working pocket door. I've started cutting the new wall boards, but mine will be two different heights. My parlor ceiling will be higher than the kit intended to accommodate the new taller front door and the Houseworks narrow stairs. The kitchen ceiling will be the original intended height since the bay window and the upstairs windows are based on this height. Each wall on either side of the pocket door will support it's own ceiling at the varying heights. Oh, that sounds so simple on paper. I have the stairs as close as possible to the pocket door while still allowing for proper trim around the new doorway. If it were back much further, it would encroach on the bookcase and leave very little at the top of the stairs on the second floor.
